Nova News

Third Sector Strategy event

We had an amazing turnout on the 12 September for our Third Sector Strategy Event and Nova EGM. Over 50 people from more than 40 different organisations shared their valuable time with us. The range of ideas and suggestions given to improve the proposals published in August were really constructive, innovative and evidence of the talent that exists within our District that make so many good things happen in our communities. Some of the areas highlighted included:
  • Being consistent with language – no acronyms!
  • Be able to measure our impact
  • Be clear about what we mean by "improving wellbeing"
  • Recognise and celebrate the diversity and achievements of the sector in the here and now
We have much to do to continue to take this forward and will revise the proposal to reflect all of the contributions made on the 12 September before we continue our consultation with our partners including the Council and the CCG, and as many more people within the Voluntary, Community & Social Enterprise sector as we can reach. We will provide an update on progress at our next Big Conversation/AGM on the 26 October and in future e-bulletins. The EGM was also a success with overwhelming support for the changes in our rules affecting the number of members we need to be quorate for future general meetings reflecting the continued growth in our membership which now stands at 309 organisations.

Reading Ahead

Wakefield Libraries would like to hear from voluntary and community sector organisations and groups that would be interested in taking part in Reading Ahead. Reading Ahead is an initiative that started in 2008 and since then has helped many adults and young people build in confidence and benefit from far greater opportunities in everyday life. Reading Ahead invites participants to pick six reads and record, rate and review them in a diary in order to get a certificate. The programme isn't just about books – it's about newspapers, magazines and websites too. The aim is that participants challenge themselves to try something new and discover that reading can be a pleasure in the process. For more information, please visit the Nova website.
