The 2018-2019 school year is in full swing!
We have started the year off strong with the reunion of the returning students making space for new students to discover our unique and welcoming community. The weekend prior to the start of classes, our student board planned out an exciting schedule for the year and so far the direction they are taking has created a strong energy in this place.
The first Sunday was full of celebration as students shared their summer stories with one another. And the last couple Sundays have proven to be equally as exciting as everyone settles into their new schedules for the semester.
Though our summer was busy and the students that stayed on campus made this space seem full even when OSU is quiet, it is always exhilarating to see the Porch come to life when the school year begins.

Update on the building: Now that we have purchased the building from the LCMS, we continue to move forward with all of the related details. The lawyers are currently finishing the process of transferring the title to the Jacob's Porch non-profit from the former shared trust with the LCMS. At the same time, the future trustee board and the current Jacob's Porch board are working through the final details of the constitution revision. It has been a lot of ongoing work, but we are nearing the finish line. Thanks to everyone who has given so much time and effort to make this happen. We are nearly there!

Even though the students were away, the Porch was still bustling with all sorts of exciting projects. Among those projects was the filming of Cadia: The World Within. For two weeks in July, Jacob's Porch was the headquarters for the filming of our resident, Cedric's, debut in directing a full length movie. Not only did we get to see some famous faces hanging around the Porch, our community got to play a part in the production of the film. Students and staff were helping on set and making the entire cast feel at home in our quirky little church. We can't wait to see the final cut of this exciting creative venture.
