4th Annual PDX Drive-in Movie Spectacular! a success

We are happy to share that the 4th season of Expo's own PDX Drive-in Movie Spectacular! was a success! We welcomed thousands of people to watch classics such as Pee Wee's Big AdventureDirty Dancing and Best in Show on the big screen in front of Hall C. A portion of our proceeds were donated to North Portland’s own Saints Soccer Academy so kids from all backgrounds and abilities can learn the sport of soccer. We are looking forward to more internal review with hopes that we will present the Drive-In again next year.

A special thanks to all our clients who participated by providing ticket give-aways to your great events! You helped make this our most successful series to date.

Busy show season coming up for 2019 - be prepared!

We have a busy show season coming up and we are excited to work with everyone for a successful spring and summer show season! A couple of important reminders to serve you best – floor plans are due to the fire marshal three weeks in advance of your opening show date. Make sure you complete your application and provide your event manager a copy of your floor plan within that time frame to avoid a double-charge from the city.

Additionally, it’s important that we know your intent for any feature, promotions or charitable uses in your lobby spaces. Please note that you cannot sell booth space in the lobby without renting the space. If you ever need ideas for successful set-ups and/or uses, please do not hesitate to ask!
Artist Rendering: Not all features will be included in final design.

Expo Center putting finishing touches on new
Greenwall Plaza just in time for Fall Show Season

As we transition into fall show-mode at the Portland Expo Center, we are excited to announce that our Greenwall Plaza project is nearing completion. In addition to our unique storm water greenwall, the space features a glass roll-up door for flexible indoor/outdoor space for catering functions and outdoor beer gardens, plus expanded outdoor seating for West Delta Bar & Grill. This project has been a couple years in the planning, and it is good to see it nearing completion with the goal of expanded food and beverage opportunities for all our events. We are not renting this space at present for expansion of vendor space, we want to develop our F&B options for all patrons.

Be sure to stop by and check-out the space the next time you are at the Expo Center!

*The renovation created minor changes to the layout on the east side of the connector - be sure to check-in with your event manager to see if this will impact your event.
Temporary Event Electrical Contract
currently under negotiation

The Portland Expo Center is committed to providing exceptional customer service to our clients, guests, and the community who use this great place. This is precisely why we are exploring various important improvements to serve all who call this place home. Expo is focused on taking care of our facility to ensure the long-term sustainability of our venue with prudent business decisions that support the economic viability of the facility, and all our events, well into the future.

As a public facility, we are required to periodically release all contracts for an open RFP process. As I shared at the May Expo Advisory Committee meeting, our temporary event electrical service contract was released for RFP on May 22nd. We went to great lengths in preparing our RFP to clearly express our goals and upon release, the documents were reviewed by a variety of interested parties - ultimately Metro received two proposals. The RFP process was open and competitive. Reviews took place both for written applications and subsequent in-person panel interviews.  As we approach our final selection and contract negotiations for our vendor, I welcome your thoughts about the priorities and needs for temporary event electrical services at the Expo. However, I am required to follow the processes and clear guidelines established by Metro procurement. This contract is solely for electrical services and does not include audio visual services.

As you likely know, Expo is paying a debt service through 2024. We believe the selected contractor could provide a revenue share model that contributes significantly to that effort. Should you have any questions or need further information, feel free to contact Matthew Rotchford, Executive Director at 503.736.5200 or mpr@expocenter.org.

Upgrades to front entry welcomes you to the Expo Center

This summer, our front entry underwent a dramatic makeover. In addition to fresh paint for all of the parking booths and gates, we also installed new digital signage in order to continue to welcome patrons, promote events and speed-up ingress. We look forward to welcoming you and your guests to your next event!
