First-run News

SwiftK12 test reminder
Tonight at 7 p.m., Lakeside will test its SwiftK12 notification system. Every school family will receive a phone call, an email, and (if applicable) a text. If you do not receive all three types of notifications tonight, notify the school at (920) 648-2321 during regular school hours.

Invite from Principal Grasby
Tomorrow, September 5, freshmen parents have the opportunity to experience life as a Lakeside student at Freshmen Parent Information Night. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. Following a brief welcome, parents will follow their student's schedule to meet the teachers in the actual classrooms where learning takes place. The evening ends at 8. Please join us!

Gentle reminder for bus-riding families
Lakeside Lutheran administration reminds you to drive safely when you bring your Lakeside student to a pickup point to board one of our buses. The school has already received several reports of instances this school year in which parents may well have driven in a less-than-safe manner in order to get their child(ren) to a bus stop on time or to catch up to a bus if it has already left the stop. Please get to the bus stop early to avoid risking your safety, your child’s safety, and the safety of others.

New faces on staff
In addition to the 4 new called faculty, your LLHS has several new other faces for you to welcome in their positions. Next time you call or stop in the office, you may meet Mrs. Lisa Cody (St. John, Juneau), our new administrative assistant for athletics, transportation and other admin needs (lcody@llhs.org, ext 2200). We have a new ELC aide, Mrs. Sara James (Holy Cross, Madison, sjames@llhs.org). And if you haven't already met her, Mrs. Jess Meyer (Eastside, Madison) is the new Alumni and Event Coordinator that joined the Development staff at the end of July (jmeyer@llhs.org x2230).

Handbook Highlight: Student Health & Medications
Parents share with the school any important health information regarding their child by filling out a health form. Every year, parents are asked to update this form. Any changes to a child’s health condition during the school year that may affect attendance, behavior, or academic performance should be communicated to the school as soon as possible.

If a student needs to take prescription or over-the-counter medication during the school day…
  1. The student may take that medication independently, on his own, following the direction of his or her parents. The student is allowed to self-administer medication provided the medication is in the original packaging. The student is asked to be discreet as he or she takes that medication. Under no circumstances should prescription medication be shared with anyone else.
  2. If a parent desires that the school dispense medication to the student, the parent should contact the school office. Appropriate permission forms must be completed and written directions are required. Forms and guidelines can be obtained by contacting the school office. By Wisconsin state law, schools cannot dispense medication unless these forms are properly filled out.
  3. Diabetic students should make arrangements with the school office if refrigerated storage is needed. It is their responsibility to see that required foods or juices are available as needed.
  4. Students may need to be in possession of personal medical equipment during the school day. This may be for day-to-day use (a diabetic kit), for occasional use (an inhaler), or for emergency use (an epinephrine auto-injector, e.g. Epipen®). Parents should inform the school when a student is in possession of medical equipment. Forms may be necessary, due to state law (see below). Parents should also inform the school if assistance or special accommodations might be necessary, due to a student’s circumstances. The school will cooperate with families and reasonably protect student confidentiality in these matters.
By Wisconsin state law, students who use an inhaler to take prescription asthma medication must submit a permission form to the office. Students carrying an epinephrine auto-injector (e.g., Epipen®) must also submit a permission form to the office by state law. These forms are available on llhs.org ( top link Parents>Form and Docs”) or can be obtained by contacting the school office.

If a student is taking medication (at home or at school) that may cause side effects that could cause problems at school, parents must notify the school.
