NFL cheerleadering, volunteering with the Peace Corps, appearing on MTV — is there anything Rep. Cedric Richmond's (D-La.) new communications director hasn't done?
Jalina Porter joins Richmond's office from the Truman National Security Project, a national security- and foreign policy-focused membership organization. But before she joined the world of policy and politics, Porter spent two years as a cheerleader with the Oakland Raiders. Before moving to DC (and joining the Washington Wizards dance team), she put her cheerleading knowledge to use as a trainer on MTV's "MADE" reality show.
Porter also served in the Peace Corps in Cambodia shortly after graduating from Howard University. She got her start on the Hill as a press assistant to Rep. Jerry McNerney (D-Calif.) from 2015-2016.
