September 2018 Newsletter
Dear members and subscribers,
The Victorian music industry has come a long way in the last four years, with $22.2 million investment from the Andrews Government through the Music Works program benefiting everyone from artists to venues and small businesses.
In April this year, Music Victoria conducted a series of consultation sessions with industry to identify the current gaps and opportunities for the sector. We summarised these in our latest White Paper – Priorities for the Victorian Music Sector June 2018, which we presented to the political parties in April and today release to our members and subscribers.
In the paper we identify 16 actions, ranging from the establishment of a Statewide 10 year Victorian live music strategy, to the continuation of a stand-alone grants program for contemporary music, and support to develop an Audience Development Strategy.
The 2017 Melbourne Live Music Census was a reminder of the massive economic social and cultural benefits of a strong live music sector, and this White Paper turns its attention to support for music businesses. Any investment in music benefits the Victorian economy and helps share our important stories with the world.
We urge the political parties to take these recommendations on board when they release their election commitments in coming months.
In other news, we are thrilled to welcome Catherine Haridy onto the Music Victoria board.
Cath has been managing musical Artists and Producers, Mixers, Writers, Engineers for the last 12 years. Coming from a record label background, she cut her teeth at both Warner Music and Festival Mushroom Records in A&R before crossing the floor to Management. Her stable includes a roster of talented and enduring Artists including Eskimo Joe, Jebediah, Adalita and Bob Evans. We're thrilled to have her wealth of knowledge and experience on the MV board.
Till next time,
The Music Victoria team
