AROUND THE FARM
Spring is ready to bloom! The City Farm Nursery has lots of great stock for your Spring gardening needs. It's Father's Day on Sunday the 2nd of September and what better gift to give, than a living plant from Northey Street's City Farm Nursery or a Farm tote Bag! Spend the day at the markets on Sunday spoiling dad with a great organic breakfast, coffee or chai, a lovely healing massage, some handmade soap, a bees wax candle or a family board game. So many ethical gifts to choose from! Then you can enjoy the day in the gardens soaking up the atmosphere with the Spring flowers and bird song. Let the kids run free and play with clay. Our theme for the month is #blossomingkids Find us on Facebook HERE and on Instagram HERE.
WE NEED CLAY!
Here at the farm, we host a number of kids’ activities which require the use of natural clay from the local area. There are Earth Kids School Holiday Programs and Earth Arts activities that provide opportunities for children's nature play and earth connection. There is also a playgroup who use the farm as their meeting place during the week. All of these wonderful nature-focused activities help our young connect with nature in a unique and engaging way. We had so much fun at the Ekka as part of Green Street and teaching kids how to make seeds balls. We would love any donations of natural clay from the community so we can ensure our kids continue to thrive in loving connection with the Earth.
WORKSHOPS
Amazing workshops were held including Natural Dyeing and Basket Making, Bee Keeping, and having teenagers here to learn about how to survive in the bush was wonderful!
Fantastic up-coming Farm workshops can be found HERE.
FILM SCREENING
We are happy to announce that we will be having a screening of Chasing Coral on Thursday the 4th of October at 6.30pm, which will be followed by a panel discussion on the health of our own Great Barrier Reef. Our last screening sold out so to avoid disappointment book now HERE.
FREE TOURS AND EDUCATION
As part of our fair share ethic, we provide free tours and workshops covering a range of topics. This month we had another another retrospective of the Farm. It was great to see a slide show of how this land has changed in landscape from the fifties, through a permaculture design process, to the flourishing community garden it is now.
We will be holding a free composting workshop and bamboo construction workshop for our allotment holders in mid September. The Farm has been full of site activity and we are starting discussions about a re-design for a stage area, so that more events can be planned at the Farm. Watch this space!
We are still looking for expressions of interest from a First Nations woman to join our First Nations Advisory Board. If you are interested email:info@nscf.org.au

Call out for people to join our Teachers Reference Group
The farm is establishing a Teachers Reference Group to provide ideas for and feedback on our education activities for young people of all ages – including school excursions, holiday programs, workshops for young people and workshops for teachers. The Group will meet quarterly at a time suitable to members. If you are unable to make it to meetings but are interested in providing feedback on curriculum-linked excursion worksheets, we’d also love to hear from you. If you are a current or former teacher who would like to contribute to this, please contact the Youth Education Coordinator Emma, at education@nscf.org.au.
