Hand-Selected Skis

World Cup service...for everyone!

BNS hand-selects every pair of top-end skis that we sell. This is a painstaking, expensive process, but it ensures that your skis will match what experience tells us makes a ski especially good. We have invested heavily in the development of custom ski testing equipment that allows us to evaluate skis on a number of key benchmarks. Combine that with hands that have squeezed thousands of pairs of skis over the years, bodies that have raced thousands of kilometers in every snow condition imaginable, and minds that have been consumed by skiing for 20 years, and you get world-class service.

Selecting top-quality skis is only the beginning, however. We can coach you through the process of selecting a ski and lend our expertise to help you choose a ski that will complement your existing fleet and give you maximum performance in the desired snow conditions. Once you have decided on a ski, we go to the ski factories to pick from the largest selection possible so we can get the highest quality and the perfect match for you. We make this trip in early June, with a trip to Rossignol in August. Get your order in now so that we can get everything prepared before we go.

During this process, we can also evaluate your skis and make recommendations on what you can do to make the most out of your existing skis and where you can get the biggest benefit from adding a new ski or changing stone grind structures. Our goal is to provide our expertise to make your ski fleet simple, fast and flexible so that you have confidence in your skis and can easily pick the right ski for the conditions without stress.

Stone Grind Update

Now is the best time to grind skis!

Stone grinding refreshes a ski base by removing a thin layer of damaged ski base and creating a new structure in the ski, exposing fresh base material in the process. This results in faster skis that absorb wax easier and are easier to wax because they have been flattened. Summer is the best time to get this done because it gives your skis the maximum amount of time to absorb wax before getting on snow and there is no rush to get your skis before winter arrives. This is when we do our best work, so send your skis to BNS Midwest now so you have fast skis out of the gate next season.

BNS offers free fleet evaluations for grind customers to help figure out their ski and grind needs. Bring your skis in or ship them to us and request an evaluation. BNS ski experts will look at your skis and consult with you to determine how to make your skis work best for you. We will recommend the grinds that will maximize each ski's performance and give you coverage for the snow conditions you ski in. We can also help you figure out why certain skis are struggling to perform and help fix any issues.

Rollerskis
If you are serious about skiing, you should be rollerskiing. Rollerskiing helps you make significant improvements in balance, upper body strength, technique and makes the transition to snow faster and easier. If you have never rollerskied before, you will be amazed at how much it helps with ski-specific strength and technique. Plus it’s fun.
Not all rollerskis are equal. It is important to get rollerskis that actually allow you to reasonably mimic skiing. For skate skis, this means that they need to be fast enough but not blazing fast—about as fast as skiing on snow. Inexpensive rollerskis that use urethane rollerblade type wheels are not only dangerous and difficult to stop, they do not accurately simulate skiing on snow. Inexpensive classic skis use low quality ratchet wheels that do not feel anything like being on snow and so bring very little training value.
BNS staffers have put thousands of hours on rollerskis and we have extensively tested every ski we sell. We know what works on different roads, for different people, and for different goals. Check out our Youtube review of Fischer, SkiGo, and V2 Rollerskis.  Visit us online or in-store to let us help guide you toward picking the right setup for you.
