Dear Pope Francis Global Academy Families,

What a joy it is to have all our students back with all of their energy for learning and play!  We have had quite a jam packed two weeks where students have been busy learning their new grade level routines, classroom expectations, and getting to know their new friends. Mr. Argamaso, the Faculty & Staff, and I are looking forward to a great school year.

As our new school year continues to unfold, here are some updates that I would like to share with all of you:

This year a primary focus of the teachers will be on expanding what makes us a Global Academy and developing Global Learners.  As the year progresses teachers will be intentionally including in their weekly lesson plans information about the challenges our world faces and think critically about issues such as poverty, inequality, and sustainability. Our aim will be to help students make sense of the world in which they live and understand their role in a global society as a Catholic.

By using global learning to enrich our curriculum, our teachers will be helping students to view world issues from a Catholic perspective, develop critical thinking skills, promote spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development, and foster values such as respect and empathy.

Also new this year, due to the lack of participation and inequity in party funding, the annual Homeroom Collection Fee to fund classroom parties will no longer be collected. Instead, room parents will be reaching out to their homeroom parents when coordinating parties, crafts, and/or activities to ask for specific items to be sent in to school.

Our fun and engaging Trivia Night Fundraiser is coming up quickly on September 29. I hope you will consider getting a table together...this is a great one for inviting friends and family from outside of the school to play.  Who doesn’t love to be a know-it-all sometimes?

And, on a very excited note, the Queen is coming to the Academy! Okay, not exactly, but the Queen of Hearts Raffle is!  The Queen of Hearts raffle will be a weekly progressive raffle culminating with a “BIG winner” when the Queen of Hearts is revealed. If you are interested in helping on a committee for this exciting new fundraiser, please contact Mrs. Thyen. There is a planning meeting next Wednesday at Trattoria Porretta at 7pm.  Stay tuned for more details!

Additionally, I continue to be very busy this week recruiting and interviewing candidates for Science and Music.  I appreciate your understanding and support and do want to assure you that the substitute teachers that are currently in place are strong, knowledgeable teachers that are utilizing content level specific lesson plans to ensure that productive, effective learning is taking place while the hiring process continues.

Each year we perform a Lock Down Drill at each campus to ensure that staff is prepared to follow our emergency procedures, and that students have an opportunity to ask questions. Next Friday, September 7, we will complete this drill at each campus. It may be a good idea to speak to your child about this ahead of time to ensure them that this is merely practice.

Some Reminders:

  • Tomorrow is our first Spirit Day! Please refer to the school calendar for the designated days where students can either wear their regular school uniform or any clothing that bears the Pope Francis Global Academy or Wolf  logo. A reminder to all parents that this is not a time to have a conference. If you would like to meet with your child's teacher please feel free to set up a conference with them.
  • Grandparents’ Day:  Monday, September 17 at South and Wednesday, September 19th at North. We are inviting Grandparents and Special Friends (aunts, uncles, or a special neighbor) to school. We will start Grandparents’ Day with 8:30 a.m. Mass followed by activities at the school until 10:30.
