With Help, Veteran Moves from Alley to Apartment
“A woman’s camped out behind a dumpster,” a downtown employee told us last winter. When our Outreach Team visited her, they learned she was a veteran --eligible for services she wasn’t aware of.
We built a relationship, paying her many visits through months while she chose to live on the streets. With help, in August she moved into her own Supportive Services for Veterans Families apartment furnished from our Fresh Start Donation Center!
Twice a year household items, furniture, clothing, pictures, books, home accessories are available for purchase to the general public.
Proceeds from the Sale go directly to housing programs and services benefiting our participants.
More Affordable Housing is the Solution!
In Scott County alone, there are 7,155 households earning less than $20,000. And yet, there are only 423 housing units that would be affordable to them. Families are doubling and tripling up in unsafe housing arrangements. Some families are being forced into rents that are impossible to sustain. Join this national campaign to create a bipartisan affordable housing task force to better understand and respond to America’s affordable housing crisis.
