Hello and welcome to our October News!

What a time it's been. Firstly, we have a new Prime Minister but you're probably sick of hearing the same sentence. In a month framed by pulling strings for au pairs and pulling needles from strawberries, we're preparing for farmers pulling their headers out and preparing for a mixed-bag of a harvest. Speaking of which, the government's 'Au Pair Affair' has been a great example to help explain to our children an important life lesson. In the words of George Orwell: all animals are equal, but some are more equal than others.

The October long weekend is upon us. For those who are firing up the ride-on mower for the first time this season, we have a HUGE range of kevlar corded mower belts in stock and ready to go. The long weekend will be a good opportunity for me to get stuck into our garden. I'm on a roll this year. I've already cut the lilly pillies back way too hard and am now the proud owner of a stick garden. If that wasn't enough I also confused the broad-leaf spray bottle with my round-up spray bottle. The good news is the clover's gone. The bad news is the lawn's dead too. Needless to say it's probably best you stick with your agronomist and don't ask my advice.

The Muscle Hustle

There was a huge upset this year at the Eugowra Show as returning champion Adam 'The Mountain' Norrie was wrestled into second place by newcomer Max 'Viking Blood' Jorgensen. In a controversial twist, an 'arm-wrestle table' was used whereby competitors hold onto handle-bars, not hands. It'll be interesting to see if the table is used again next year or if we return to old-fashioned hand-grip wrestling. Turning the tables but without a table, so to speak. In the women's category, newcomer Emily 'Reign of Terror' Le Mesurier overcame Rose 'Iron Glove' Philipzen to take out the title. Both winners were awarded a $250 voucher to Blatch's.

Some Interesting Requests From The Last Month

A farmer wanted to upgrade the chain on his header to O-ring chain. Common on motorbikes, the O-rings create a seal to stop contaminates getting in and wearing the chain. Here is some of the Japanese-made chain we sourced for him.

Another farmer is overhauling an old tractor and wanted a trio of electric gauges.

Here we have a 3-ply food-grade conveyor belt with genuine Alligator brand RS125 clips fastened at both ends, ready to fit. This type of belting comes with crescent moon grip and can also come in standard black rubber.

This contract harvesting customer needed some 1-1/2" pitch, duplex sprockets with flame-hardened teeth. We had these custom-made overseas and flown in. This is one of seven the factory made for him.

This is a 4-tonne, 1000mm diameter turn-table or "slewing ring" for a farmer making a comb-trailer for harvest. These are available in smaller versions also.

I have a very good feeling about my job interview today. The manager said they were looking for somebody responsible.

Nelson Mandela's Car To Be Auctioned For Charity

Nelson Mandela's BMW 760Li (E38) is being auctioned for charity in South Africa. This heavily armoured custom BMW is called the 760Li Madiba, reflecting his nickname meaning "Father". The timber is inlaid with South African designs and the vehicle was used during Mandela's HIV/AIDS awareness campaign

between 2004-2009. If I'm mistaken please correct me via email but I believe the significance of this vehicle is that the V12 for it was dropped in from the newer 7 series. The largest engine in a production 7-series of that model (E38) was a 5.4L V12. The 6.0L V12 wasn't factory fitted until the E45 post 2002. Read on here.

Whenever I hang out with a group of friends, I try to make sure we hang out clockwise. That way, if we're photographed, we are easy to identify.
