Announcing the 2018 Class of Student Veterans of America's Leadership Institute

Meet the best chapter leaders in SVA

Washington, D.C. – Student Veterans of America (SVA) announced the chapter leaders selected for its 7th Annual Leadership Institute after a competitive selection process which saw over 300 applicants. The Leadership Institute is a three-day leadership immersion program that takes place next week at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

The most diverse and academically successful class in SVA’s decade of service, a majority are elected chapter presidents and the average GPA of the class is 3.42. Thirty percent are women, compared to 16 percent who serve in the U.S. Armed Forces and 26 percent of all student veterans. Many are majoring in in-demand fields at top Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) including 10 from Ivy League schools and 38 from U.S. News & World Report top 100 public IHLs. This year's class are majoring in fields such as Business Administration, Engineering, and Astrophysics. Click here to learn more about those selected to attend. Student names and affiliations are at the end of this release.

The Leadership Institute is sponsored by Prudential and includes volunteer participation by their employees during the program.

Identified as leaders in their SVA chapters, campuses, and communities, participants will be coached by mentors on the importance of leadership behavior, personal branding, how to deliver results, and fostering relationships. Mentors include SVA alumni with at least 10 years of professional experience and guest speakers include leaders in higher education, government, veteran organizations, and business.

After participating in the Leadership Institute, each chapter leader will be ready to more effectively lead student veterans, work with faculty and university leadership, and engage with their communities. They will gain knowledge of SVA's narrative of success which promotes the next “greatest generation” of American leadership. Each graduate will establish ongoing support through a network during the rest of their academic life and as they begin their careers.

Many will continue their leadership experience by supporting their chapter’s participation during SVA's 11th Annual National Conference, January 3 - 5, 2019, at Disney World's Coronado Springs Resort.
