In 2013, fears of a worldwide dementia crisis led to the first dementia summit in London, resulting in a G8 pledge to find a treatment or cure for dementia by 2025. World leaders admitted that they did not understand the mechanics of what happens in the brain well enough to address the issue. The World Health Organization (WHO) also stated that they did not have any leads for either a cure or a treatment.
