SCHOOL SAFETY INITIATIVE - NEW PROCEDURE
This year as part of the School Safety Initiative, all students entering the building will enter through the far west doors (office doors). All other doors will be locked. Doors will open at 7:00 a.m. for students to sit in the commons before school starts. At the end of the day, parent pick-up is from 3:00-3:20 p.m. in front of the far west doors (office doors). If students need to wait beyond 3:20 p.m. for a ride home, they may do so in the commons. The commons closes at 5:00 p.m. and all students are expected to be on their way home or to their next activity.

GUIDANCE OFFICE
ACT TESTS
Seniors interested in retaking the ACT to possibly increase their scores can do so at the next official ACT scheduled on September 8. This is a good idea since schools choose the highest score recorded. The ACT scores will be recorded on the student's official Shoreland transcript. To register or for more information, please go to act.org. Additional ACT test prep is also available on the site. Upcoming tests are as follows:
Saturday, September 8 - The registration deadline was August 10. The deadline to upload a photo is August 31.
Saturday, October 27. The registration deadline is September 28, and the deadline to upload a photo is October 19.
Students in grades 9-12 may take these tests, but they are not required. For best results we normally suggest waiting until the February and April test dates.
Juniors who are taking the ACT will have several opportunities to take the test later in the school year. Shoreland will actually pay for and host the first test for all Juniors on February 26. Students are advised to take the test additional times. The ACT will also be offered on April 13, As always, visit act.org to register, obtain information or obtain test prep information. We will also be offering a 6-week ACT Test prep course at cost to the student (was $160 last year) beginning in January on Thursday evenings in preparation for the February 26, test. An additional class will be offered for students in April in preparation for the June test. The course information will be shared with students closer to the date.
TRANSCRIPTS
All Seniors who are sending applications to schools have several options for sending their transcripts to their schools of choice. Transcripts are not acquired through Student Services. Option 1 is to use parchment.com. Seniors have received information on how to acquire transcripts from the Guidance Office. Students will need to create an account and follow the prompts. Students will choose the school of their choice and pay for them through parchment.com. Cost for the transcript is $4.00.
Option 2 is to utilize the Common App. Not all colleges use the Common App, but if they do, students can create an account and send them to Mr. Dorn to complete. There are recommendations from Guidance and updates on course selections and GPA's. Mr. Dorn will download a transcript onto the Common App for the student and then the school or schools that use the Common App can access this information. There is not a cost for this service.
HELPFUL WEBSITES FOR NAVIGATING THROUGH COLLEGE APPLICATIONS
On Shoreland's Website is a section called Post High School Planning that has numerous information to help students with college searches, applications sites, transcripts and scholarships. Students can click here and visit this page for more information or also contact Student Services with questions.
STUDENT VISITS
Mr. Dorn will meet with all students individually throughout the school year. Seniors will meet first in September to assure that students are on the pathway for college application deadlines (which begin September 1). Information has already been shared with them. Freshman visits are scheduled for October, Junior visits for November, Sophomore visits for January, and final Senior visits in April. These visits will address college and career planning as well as general academic and social progress in school. Students can set-up individual meetings with Mr. Dorn at any time to discuss any issues that may arise throughout the school year.

When there is a new invoice posted to your account, TADS will send an email showing the Charge Details within the email itself (without having to log into your TADS account.)
