Tapping inner resources using the Nurtured Heart Approach®
About SHINE FROM WITHIN
I believe each of us has unique inner gifts to share with the world. I want to:
  • inspire educators, parents and other caregivers
  • celebrate inner resources, and
  • share the journey of learning and living the Nurtured Heart Approach®.
I have captured a few take aways for those just getting started with NHA, thinking specifically of next steps for participants following a full day inservice presentation during which I introduced the NHA. My newsletter nuggets and resources are intended to be useful to any NHA® practitioner. This is NOT a substitute for NHA training. Subscribe now!

Notice energy --
both internally and externally.
Where are the fireworks in your life? The big noises? The excitement? The lighting up? Where are you choosing to direct your energy? Where are the fireworks around you? What's grabbing your attention? What's attracting others? What strategies do people use to gain relationship and connectivity?
Stand 1: Absolutely No!

Work on reducing the negativity you might bring to everyday problems. When working with children, administer the consequences you’ve been using with a matter-of-fact, neutral tone. Unplug from negativity. Save your energy for the good stuff!

Acknowledge problems and irritations while resisting the urge to fuel them with words, gestures and other forms of negative energy. Work on your ability to reset yourself.
Stand 2: Absolutely Yes!
Practice gratitude. Work with positive intentions and grow your ability to see the good and talk about it. Experiment with the NHA recognitions and post words of greatness around you to help you accentuate the positive qualities you want to see.

Our goal is to build inner wealth by being authentic and truthful.

Perfection is not required!
Our brains are wired to react and we are creatures of habit. Attend to self-care and how you re-engage after mistakes, “I wish I wouldn’t haves” or “Can you believe its?!!” Perfection is not required.
Study and model your own form of reset and how you get back in the game. Be transparent as you feel comfortable.
Foundation First!
Work first to establish a
foundation with Stands 1 and 2
so that the limit setting can have its intended effect.
STAND 3: Absolutely Clear!
Clarity promotes safety, success and enjoyment.

NHA is about using our life force effectively. While the strategies support healthy behavior, NHA is not a behavior management program. When we focus on relationship, our need for conventional and more punitive measures will fade over time. Attend to safety protocols and administer existing consequences in an unenergized “you broke the
rule, this is what happens” way. No pep talk, no lecture, no “I know you can do better”. Once it’s over, it’s over, and get back to greatness. If there’s discussion or problem-solving, it must happen without negativity, away from the moment of the infraction. Honor the greatness of being willing to engage in conversation and skill building.
Kids can break the rules at any time. We want to give our energetic hundred dollar bills when they’re showing greatness and choosing to cooperate, engage and support the learning environment. It is our job to find, focus on and foster greatness.
