Yesterday I wrote a very long introduction to this newsletter.
It was all about mindsets, finding new passions, embracing failure, blah blah blah. It was very earnest and not really very interesting. This morning I decided I had to scratch all that because I found an absolutely incredible treasure trove on the internet. It's the most awe inspiring collection of film paraphernalia I have ever seen and it's all up for auction. Feel the need to possess Marty McFly's hover board? Edward Scissorhand's costume? And as a fabricy person, I love this box of fabric swatches from Gone with the Wind. There is SO much good stuff from so many good films.
But... but... the pièce de résistance (imo) is Indy's fedora from Raider's of the Lost Ark. Now that is the holy grail of film props.
There - that's my introduction DONE. That's all you need to hear from me... marvellous.

1) Call My Agent (Dix Pour Cent) on Netflix. I found this by chance while looking for something fun to watch and I am so glad I did!
5 Reasons I love this show:
- It's about about the French film industry, focusing on a small, struggling talent agency in the middle of Paris.
- The writing is funny and soapy and dry and pitch perfect
- The characters are so believable, loveable and flawed - J'adore them all.
- Cameos by Christopher Lambert, Juliette Binoche and Isabelle Adjani.
- The clothes! The hair - si belle! Ils sont très chic!
2) Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine. Eleanor Oliphant has been a hot read for some time, thanks to Reese Witherspoon's book club recommendation. Reese has a quote on the cover saying "incredibly funny"... and yes, Eleanor is one of the quirkiest characters you could hope to come across, but I wept more than I laughed... those big embarrassing tears that fill up the inside of your reading glasses. Despite all the sobbing, I could not put this book down.
3) John Mulaney - Kid Gorgeous at Radio City on Netflix. Now, this was funny (I didn't cry once and I have watched it three times). John Mulaney feels like some kind of retro-kid from the 1950s bursting with hilarious stories packed with crazy twists.
4) Ryan Holiday's notecard system is blowing my mind with how simple and fun it is to keep track of all the passing ideas I have in a day. Until now I had been keeping chaotic moleskine notebooks filled with random ideas and nothing was ever easy to find again. This is the perfect solution. All you need is a pen, a packet of index cards, dividers and a shoebox. H/T to Austin Kleon.
5) Bill Nighy reads The Invisible Child from Tove Jansson, creator of the Moomins, on the Guardian Books Podcast. This so lovely. Gentle, charming, funny and... well, Bill Nighy reading a Moomin Story. Need I say more? Listen immediately. The print version of the story is available to buy in support of Oxfam:
