Labor Day on the farm really means labor not holiday. We had a lot to do and made use of the 2 boys home from school to accomplish it.

Bird movement

Over the last week we have moved all the turkeys out of their moveable coups into the stationary run, the laying hens have moved into a 1 acre fenced paddock, and 8 coups have moved into a part of the pasture with good grass.
We also moved the pig into his own paddock and the cows in with the chickens to mow the grass. Everyone is settling in.

Field work

The birds have been on the field for 10 years and it is time to reseed and de-weed. Since we do not spray the fields and the weeds have taken over we need to start from scratch.
We will let the grass and weeds die and come back in 2 weeks and break the clumps and seed with orchard grass and clover.

Car Maintenance

When all the children are home there is automobile maintenance to be had by all!

Truck running boards were painted and installed as well as wheel bearings packed, brakes serviced and sway bar linkage replaced. The power washing was part of cleanup duty.

Summer Nights

This is a picture of one of the lightning storms we had last week. Very impressive thunderstorms to say the least.
