Featured Resource

Beginning of Year Math Launch
There are suggested agendas and PD modules to support the Math Leadership Teams at the beginning of the school year. Choose one based on the amount of time you have at your site and your needs. Any of these agendas can be used later in the year for ongoing PD at your site. There are also a number of PD modules such as Math Talks, 3-Read Protocol, and Place Value Progression Trace available. Feedback is always welcome and if you have ideas for additional PD modules, please contact the math liaison assigned to your school.

Core Curriculum News

All schools received the student and teacher materials for the fall units during the week of August 13th. Please inventory your materials and let us know if anything is missing.

Your feedback makes the curriculum stronger; please post resources, corrections, and suggestions to Google Classroom or to our feedback form: http://tinyurl.com/SFUSDMathFeedback.

The latest versions of the curriculum are always available online.

Upcoming Math Professional Development

Math Leadership Team at School Sites

We recommend sites identify two teachers (K-2 and 3-5) and one non-classroom teacher to serve on the Math Leadership Team. Please complete the Math Leadership Team 2018-19 Google Form to let us know who is on the team. You can read the description here. Math Content Specialists will work with the Math Leadership Team to share resources and identify a focus for the year.

Stay tuned for information about math collaboration days in the coming months.

Opportunities for Educators

LWEA (Prop G) Professional Development Hours
SFUSD educators represented by UESF are invited to participate in additional Professional Development offered through the Living Wage for Educators Act of 2018, more commonly known as the Prop G parcel tax or LWEA.

Your annual hours can be used through June 2019. However, you need pre-approval from your supervisor to use your hours and need to make advance arrangements if you plan to use them in June. For more information, refer to this flyer. Contact Nora Houseman, LWEA Supervisor, for more information.

Free SFMOMA Pass for Educators

SFMOMA is piloting a new program to grant free admission to San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) TK–12 educators. To qualify for the pass, you will need to attach verification of employment with SFUSD. This verification can take the form of either a recent pay stub or a current school/union ID card. To receive your Educator Pass, please complete the application.

California Math Council North Conference at Asilomar
The CMC North Conference, from Nov 30 to Dec 2, is an opportunity to learn with teachers from around the region about math content and pedagogy. The conference is at a beautiful location in Pacific Grove; it is a wonderful setting for reflecting and learning with your site colleagues. Visit the conference website at www.cmc-math.org/cmc-north-conference for more information.

Recent Activities

We were thrilled to support SFUSD paraeducators by facilitating workshops at the 2nd annual Paraeducators Institute. Participants became more familiar with the SFUSD Math Core Curriculum, the signature strategies, and how to support group work. We discussed strategies we can use to support students to be math learners. Paraeducators participated in a Math Talk and worked on a task together.

Thank you for all that you do!
