To turn the mundane into art is sublime. It inspires a sense of wonder and possibility in people who look at it, because it invites us to reimagine something that we've overlooked. Like that movie moment when the popular guy sees the weird art girl in a dress for the first time.
Neon Zinn was created by Seth Damm out of a box of cotton rope in his New Orleans studio. His necklaces are sculptural and audacious, and worn by the likes of Halle Berry and Lily Tomlin - two women to whom those adjectives could also apply.
I appreciate that they are both highbrow and lowbrow, as I myself always aspire to be.
