September, October and November 2018 Newsletter

Thank goodness that cold winter is behind us and as we are moving into spring we should all be able to defrost.  We have seen some changes recently with Management and our staff trying to make our village even better, there are many more improvements to come.  Thank you to those who take pride in your homes, keeping your homes and gardens well maintained, it really does make a difference in the appearance of our village.  I am sure you have all noticed the gorgeous, intricate little fairy houses appearing in our village, we are very lucky to have our very talented Peter and Jenny living amongst us and putting so much time and effort into making our village special.

Work Being Undertaken
You will notice that there has been a lot of tree work carried out in our village over the last couple of months, we have had the time and the good weather lately which has enabled us to get a lot of this work done.

Our office has just had more doors and windows replaced.  Soon the rendering will be finished and with a few more touch ups and our main office building will be complete.

We have a new logo for Lakeside, as you will see on our new entrance sign and the new highway sign that will hopefully be up by the time you get this newsletter.

Our pools shade sail has been replaced and hopefully in the not too distant future we will have replaced the pool fence too.

The tennis court is being resurfaced with concrete, then new synthetic grass will be installed on the new surface.

The area where the badminton court was will be a lovely new sitting area.

We will also be renewing parts of our roadway and will be looking at the worst areas soon.

We are looking into croquet and a golf practice net in our village and would welcome any feedback from our residents.

Swimming Pool
Hopefully we get lots of sunny days and the weather starts warming up soon so we can turn on our solar heating and make our swimming pool nice to take a dip.  When it warms up we will be installing our new custom made stairs which will make it a lot easer for you all to get in and out of the water.

Compound
It has been reported to us that the compound gate has been left unlocked after hours.  Everyone must lock the gate after hours.

After Hours Contact
All after hours and weekend enquiries or emergencies are to be made by phone to 4358 8925.

Electricity Meters
Can everyone please check that their meters are easily accessable for our meter reader to be able to read the numbers.   If anyone is thinking about getting solar panels on the roof, please be aware that the current meters on your home are not suitable for the panels.

Firewood
We still have plenty of firewood on the land next door so if you know anyone who would like free aged firewood and can chop it up themselves, ask them to call us at the office and we will organise access.

Recycling
You will see there is a couple of spots where the Recycling bins have been placed in the top section of our village.  Please squash any boxes that you put in the recycling bins as well as a reminder that plastic bags are not recyclable.

Thanks for the thanks
We have has a lot of positive feedback for the upgrades that are taking place at our village.  Special thanks was given to Nigel for the care he shows in his work.

Sales News

We have had 31 property inspections in the last 3 months, with 4 sales in this time, selling 1 new homes and 3 preloved homes.

We have a new sales notice board next to the office door near reception which have all sales listings advertised.  There is also information on sales that potential purchases can take with them.  We have a new sales contract that will be used on all our home sales at Lakeside, and all our vendors get a phone call after inspections letting them know of any feedback regarding their listed home.

If you are thinking about putting your home on the market, give us a call and we will be happy to give you an appraisal.   If you are selling through another agent please let us know your home is on the market so we can give your agent correct information regarding our village and the site that your home is on.

If you are thinking of listing with a Real Estate Agent
we have a better offer.....

Not only has our sales commission been reduced to only 2.7%, incl GST.. but we still have the special on that if you exclusively list your home with us for 3 months or more and while we have it listed we sell it, you will receive 12 weeks free rent.

We will also beat any commission rate offered by a real estate agent, just come in and talk with us before you sign anything.  We will guarantee a better deal.

This offer is for a limited time only and will make selling with us better value than selling through a real estate agent.

Barber Shop

We are lucky to have a fully qualified, very talented barber here now at Lakeside Leisure Village.

Georgia completed her Certificate III in Hairdressing and a Diploma in Salon Management then went on to study Barbering in Sydney at Ultimo College.  As well as hairdressing, Georgia has worked as a  barber locally and in Newcastle.

As her shop is a Barber Shop, she does not do colours and prefers to utilise her skill at cutting and styling.  She is very reasonably priced with Men's and Ladies cuts for $20 and Men's senior cuts for $15.

You may recognise Georgia as she has worked in our office at Lakeside while studying and on her breaks.  But I need to remind everyone that she is here to run her business as a Barber and all enquiries regarding general running of Lakeside Leisure Village are to be made in our office.

There is no need for appointments for cuts so drop by and say hello to Georgia and check out her new shop and  Black Rose Barber on Face Book.

Any enquiries call Georgia on 0432665030

Library News

Soup and Damper Day

The Custodians of the Community Hall Library wish to say a special “Thank You” to all the people who supported the Soup and Damper Day, either by attending or with very generous donations. $515.00 was raised to go to drought relief and we purchased hay for the Burrumbuttock Hay Drive with the money. The five different soups were, once again, great favourites, and as everyone brought their own mug for the bottomless cup that was offered, we soon saw the boilers and saucepans emptied. The social atmosphere, the friendship and fun made the day a really good one, with everyone going home full of tasty soup and many happy, if amused, prize winners. The Lucky dip was a real risk…….but what can you get for a dollar?  Lots of fun in the barn with the Library Crew, that’s what!

Many thanks are due to the soup makers, especially Ron and Doug and thanks to the ladies who worked so hard on the day, well done to you all.

Trivia.

Trivia remains a favourite in the Community Hall on the last Tuesday of the month at 2.00pm. Come along to test your wits, either by yourself or with a team. The competition is fierce, the afternoon tea goes down well and it is a chance to have a bit of fun with fellow quiz buffs.

Changes to the Library.

The Library has undergone some changes this year and we now have an integrated collection, with all genres being shelved together. You can find the book you want by the colour dot on its spine.

Yellow: True stories and Biographies.                    Blue: General fiction novels.

Pink:   Romance                                                     Gold: Cowboy westerns.

Orange: Thriller, mystery and suspense                 White: Fantasy

Black: Horror                                                           Gold and Blue: Historical

Look for these stickers in the DVD collection as well. In the DVDs we also have a War category, Music, Comedy, sport and non-fiction. We started with 10 DVDs and now have well over 600 to choose from. Have a good browse one day and see what classics you can find to watch on a rainy day ( if we ever get one).

There is now a large pamphlet/ booklet non-fiction table in the main room by the folding door. Please help yourself to any item you wish to read. If you need to keep anything for further information, you are quite welcome to do so.

Beside the computer, also in the main room, are some very useful manuals on computing for beginners, even for Dummies! Browse through them for assistance with computing problems and feel free to use the computer that is there. Sorry, but there is no internet, maybe use your smartphone if you need to access the web.

Reading suggestions

The yellow dot books hold many treasures. If true stories are your thing, look for the yellow dot and take home to story of your favourite sports person, actor or politician (if you have a favourite politician). There is a very good selection of sportsmen biographies on the display table at the moment.

I have found Mae West (WES): Ita Buttrose (BUT): Layne Beachley (BEA) and Edith Piaf(PIA) for a start. Notice that biographies are catalogued with the subject’s name, NOT the author’s name. So if you are looking for a particular person that you wish to read about, look for the first three letters on their surname.  As I have shown above.

Have fun exploring the shelves. We have some absolute treasures there, especially amongst the non-fiction collection and it gives the Ladies who re-shelve the books great satisfaction to know how much the library materials are used. Thank you all for your support.

We give away duplicates or materials that do not suit to good causes and the last lot of books went to a young couple who were starting their family, and wanted to begin a library in their new home. It was so lovely to see the pleasure they took in the books that they received from our discards.

We cannot use, and neither can our charity contacts, dirty, torn, smoky old materials. If it is to go in the collection it needs to be a relatively recent publication (last 20 years), to smell fresh, be clean and in good condition: we just don’t have room for the junk out of your old shed. Please use the recycling option for those kinds of books.

The Library Group meets on the first Monday of each month: 2.00pm for social chat, 2.30pm meeting start. All residents are most welcome to attend on a very casual basis if they wish to join our little group. We talk about what we have read, authors we love (or hate), we even have some heated debates over reading likes and dislikes, but overall we enjoy our time of social interaction and make sure that there is some literary content in our chats. So do feel free to come along and see what we are about. We promise not to put you to work!

Lakeside Leisure Village Social Bowls Club

Greetings members,

The pairs and singles noms are on the board in the bowls area. These will close on Friday August 31 and the draw will be held over the weekend with the first matches to take place on the 8th or 9th of September.

During August, Munmorah United 'bowlo' had their club championship for the mens triples and LLV nominated 5 teams out of the 22 team tournament and one of those made the final. The team of  Bob Kirkwood (skip) Bill Ralley (second) and Terry Frazer (lead) put up a tremendous performance to 'knock out' several #1 & #2 players on their way to the final. Unfortunately, luck was not with them and they finished a gallant second. Congrats to the 'Village people' as they became known.

Our Xmas in July at Wyong racecourse attracted 33 members and guests. The feedback was very positive, thank you to all who attended.

Tuesday and Thursday bowls are still commencing at 1pm and Friday twilight is at 3pm, will advise when these times change.

Special thanks go out to the Management here at LLV for their kind generosity in the purchase of a roller for our green.

Good bowling,

Rob Gregory
Secretary

Social Club Happenings

Christmas in July was a great success and a big Thank You to the previous LLV Social Club Committee for the hard work they had put into the initial organisation of this event.  Those who attended had a great time and the winners of the Lucky Door prizes and the Mystery prizes were very happy with their winnings.

This year's committee have held their first BBQ and were very lucky to have great weather so everyone could sit outside and enjoy the sunshine (Roll on summer).  The Father's Day BBQ will be held on Sunday 2nd September and we will have Snitty Burgers added to the menu.  Lets not forget ALL DADS EAT FREE.

A few new residents have moved into our village and have joined the LLV Social Club, and a big welcome to them.  I am sure everyone will welcome them to our many BBQ's and functions.

If anyone wishes (or needs) to contact a Committee Member or the Committee in general please see the phone numbers listed on the Social Club Notice Boards, if you have any suggestions or ideas to put forward, please contact us, the LLV Social Club letter box is Number 33 LLV mail box.  This letter box is used for the Social Club exclusively.

Please support the LLV Social Club by purchasing our raffle tickets (drawn monthly at our BBQ).  Social Club ticket sellers will come knocking on your door leading up to the BBQ, or you can purchase at the BBQ if you miss them.  This is our main fund raiser and goes towards our major events put on for all our members and residents.  Prizes are 1st $50.00, 2nd $30.00 and 3rd $20.00.

Some of the exiting events coming up in the Barn:
