GDN has shortlisted three institutions — the Centre for Innovation Policy and Governance (Indonesia), the Center for the Studies of Social and the Economic Realities (Bolivia) and the National Centre for Technology Management (Nigeria) — to act as national focal points for the Doing Research program in their countries. STUDYING IMPACT FINANCING IN ACP COUNTRIES
The European Investment Bank (EIB) and GDN have shortlisted ten candidates from over 150 applicants, for the second round of EIB-GDN Program in Applied Development Finance. These highly qualified young researchers from Cameroon, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, and Kenya will spend 12 months studying the impact of EIB's projects in the African, Caribbean and the Pacific (ACP) countries, under the mentorship of top international experts. WHERE ARE THE WOMEN IN SOCIAL SCIENCE RESEARCH?
Under 30% of the world’s researchers are women, indicating the lack of women’s perspectives in research. In a recent op-ed in India’s leading newspaper, the Hindustan Times, authors call for immediate efforts to level the playing field for women researchers, coupled with upstream measures that see more women completing the higher education needed for research-based careers. The article was also featured in the India Development Review, the country's first independent online knowledge platform for leaders in the development community.

BUILDING A RESEARCH CULTURE IN HARAMAYA UNIVERSITY
In this edition of Five Questions, Mengitsu Ketema, associate professor at Haramaya University, Ethiopia talks about how GDN's program 'Building Research Capacity in the Least Developed Countries' has helped increase the level of research involvement and culture. Mr. Ketema believes external funding like that of GDN's can sustain research culture by actively involving its decision makers at the School of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Management.
RESEARCH COMMUNICATIONS TRAINING
A new short film outlines GDN’s communications training and peer review workshop for researchers, advisors, and practitioners from JICA in April 2018. The communications training helped researchers convert their research into a variety of products designed to create and sustain a demand for their research findings, and was very well received by participants. Learn more about the research program looking into the effectiveness of Kaizen and other management practices.
