University Libraries receive NEH digitization grant

The University of Maryland Libraries received a grant of $264,000 from the National Endowment for the Humanities to digitize historic Maryland newspapers. It's our fourth such grant.

Of the materials to be digitized, of particular note is Maryland Suffrage News, a newspaper written and edited by women which emerged in the early 1900s as the leading mouthpiece of pro-suffrage forces in the state.

Why buy? Students now borrow textbooks

More than 400 textbooks for the largest courses on campus are available for 4-hour loan at McKeldin Library. Study guides for graduate school exams are also available.

The popular loan program reaffirms our commitment to taking the sting out of the high cost of textbooks. More than 1,700 students borrowed textbooks last fall. We are also members of the Open Textbook Network.

Exhibit opens at Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library

A new exhibit featuring the painting of an elaborate Renaissance street pageant is the centerpiece of a yearlong celebration of the performing arts on campus.

High-resolution scans of the painting, displayed at the Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library and provided by the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, England, inspire students and faculty.
