Message from the Principal
Dear Families, Welcome back! It was nice to see so many of you on the first day of school; we certainly had a packed house. As Superintendent Evans mentioned in his morning welcome, Emerson is a great school and we are going to have a wonderful year. All the students are settling into their classrooms, and we are off to a good start. A few things to remember to do these first weeks of school and beyond are to label student belongings so they don't get buried in the lost and found, check your child's "take home" folder nightly to look for important notes and assignments, and stay in contact with us. If your child is absent, if you have any concerns or questions, or wonder how your child is doing, just drop us an email to let us know. The more we communicate, the stronger the bond we can forge between home and school.
Parents of students in Grades 1 - 5, please remind your children to turn in their SUMMER READING AND MATH packets for a treat. These packets were sent home with all students the last week of school to keep reading and math skills sharp over the break. Packets are due by back by Friday, September 7th.
We have a few upcoming events to keep in mind for the month of September. First is our Back-to-School Night, which is next Thursday, September 6. This evening is an excellent opportunity to meet staff, find out about grade level expectations, and learn about school priorities for the year. Look for a flyer next week for start and end times. The second event is the PTA BBQ on Friday, September 14. This is a perfect opportunity to meet old friends and make new ones while having a yummy, free dinner. Finally, please feel free to join us at our first School Site Council (SSC) of the year on Wednesday, September 19. The SSC is an elected team of staff and parents who work together to oversee the school's Site Plan and the budgets associated with the plan. We also monitor student achievement and learn about school-wide support and interventions. We generally meet once a month on Wednesdays in the school library or room 12 from 5:30 to 7:00, and everyone is welcome! I hope you will consider joining us throughout the year.
Warmly,
Ms. Hodge
