Staff Book Review

The Feather Thief by Kirk Wallace Johnson

Armed with only a pair of latex gloves, a miniature LED flashlight, and a suitcase, twenty-year-old flautist Edwin Rist cleaned out the Tring museum.  He grabbed hundreds of rare bird specimens – extinct Birds of Paradise, endangered Indian Crows, Resplendent Quetzels and more.  And for what?  The Victorian art of salmon fly-tying.   After learning about the heist while on a fly-fishing vacation, Kirk Wallace Johnson became obsessed with the strange case of the feather thief.  His journey to find the truth takes him around the world as he follows the twisty tale of Edwin Rist, investigates the fate of the largest ornithological collection in the world, and tries to infiltrate the insular and defensive community of Victorian fly-tiers.

Staff Tech Tip

Receipts – Print, Email, None

If you’re like me at all, you lose your library check-out receipt as soon as you walk out the door or take your books out of your tote bag.  Thanks to our upgrade, we now have receipt options for you!  You can continue to get a paper receipt.  You can opt to get receipts by email, or you can choose to get no receipt at all.  To change your receipt preferences to email, log in to your online account using your library card number and password, click on the account preferences tab, then click on the notification preferences tab.  At the very bottom of the options is an option to email checkout receipts by default.  Check that box and then click save!  There’s not currently an option to receive no receipt by default, but if that’s your preference, just let us know when we’re checking out your materials.
