Bingley: Going Places
As part of its work to regenerate the parish, the Council’s Town Centre and Regeneration Committee has been working on a prospectus to promote Bingley. Called ‘Going Places’, the new brochure is aimed at attracting investors to the town and it provides essential facts and figures about Bingley and highlights the many benefits of bringing business into the area.
The prospectus is just about to go to print and will be distributed widely as well as being available at the Bingley Business Expo.

Bingley Business Expo
Bingley Town Council is pleased to support Bingley Business Expo 2018, which returns to Bingley Arts Centre for its second year on Wednesday 19th September.
The B2B networking exhibition, which runs from 9.30 am to 4.00 pm, showcases the business communities of Bingley and beyond, with the aim of encouraging local businesses to work together and take advantage of the services available on their doorstep.
Founded and organised by Rachel Barratt of Aire Media and Emma Steele of ES Editorial, the Expo has the support of Bingley-based sponsors, Mortgage Advice Bureau and Janus Interiors.
Business owners, freelancers and decision makers are invited to attend this free event for the opportunity to network and connect with 30 exhibiting businesses, as well as fellow visitors. Drop by and let us know what the Town Council can do to help support businesses in Bingley.

500 year anniversary at All Saints Church, Bingley
The Council will be represented at a BIG Proms Concert on Saturday 6th October and a service on Sunday 7th October in celebration of the 500th anniversary of the founding of Bingley’s parish church.
All Saints Church, on Old Main Street, Bingley, was dedicated to All Saints in 1518, and is commemorating the occasion with a concert including all the usual ‘Last Night of the Proms’ favourites, with local choirs, groups, and schools along with the Hall Royd Brass Band.
The church invites everyone to come along to help celebrate; the concert begins at 7pm and tickets are £12.50 in advance (01274 565079) or £15.00 on the door. Bishop Nick Baines (Bishop of Leeds) will be taking the 10.30 Service on Sunday 7th October.

Christmas Lights and Tree
The Council has agreed to spend a further £3,639 this year on renewing and enhancing the Christmas lights in central Bingley.
Rope lights on lamp-posts along Main Street, Wellington Street and Chapel Lane will be replaced, as will the static lights on the triangular curtains. There will also be new rope lights on an additional three lamp-posts in Wellington Street. When this work is done, all Christmas lighting will be three years old or newer.
The sum also includes an amount for the competition being run in Bingley primary schools to design a new light decoration. All primary schools have been contacted and invited to submit entries from children in Years Four and Five by 12th October. The winning feature will be specially made for the Christmas lights display this year and positioned on the lamp-post at the corner of the market square.
The Council had already previously agreed to spend £1,100 for a Christmas tree in the market square. This will again be supplied by Bradford Council but is no longer provided free of charge.

Update on public toilets
The Council’s Town Centre and Regeneration Committee continues to progress plans to re-provide public toilets in Bingley. Having taking advice from the Yorkshire Local Councils Association, a tender document has been drafted in respect of a contract for a Project Manager to manage the work of converting the now disused toilet block into two standalone public toilets and an office for the Town Council. The opportunity will be advertised in accordance with the Council’s Financial Regulations.
In the meantime, Councillors have met facilities companies on site with the aim of seeing whether it is feasible to reopen part of the toilets block on a temporary basis while the conversion project is in progress.
Separately, detailed specifications and a timescale have been sought from Bradford Council for the conversion of an existing changing facility at Bingley Pool into a Changing Places toilet facility for people with disabilities who cannot use standard accessible toilets.

Green and Clean news
Our thanks to everyone who has managed to keep Bingley’s summer floral displays fed and watered during the recent dry and hot period – not only Carlton Nurseries, the Council’s contractors, but also groups including Action Stations, Bingley Bloomers (WI), village societies and other ‘Friends‘ groups.
Thanks too to all the residents who’ve taken time to tell us how lovely the displays look – and what a difference they make.
We will shortly be ordering winter/spring bedding and bulbs for distribution to our local groups, and now that the summer planting in the Council’s various baskets and tubs has fully developed, we would welcome your feedback to enable us to start planning for next year.
Further litter bin surveys have resulted in requests to Bradford Council for some unsightly bins to be replaced and new ones to be added under a sponsorship agreement.
Finally, a reminder that the next Green and Clean Forum for anyone interested in planting, caring for green spaces and littering issues will take place on Saturday 22nd September at Cardigan House, between 10 am and 12 pm. The speaker will be Nick Milsom of the Aire Rivers Trust. There’ll also be an update on efforts to establish a new Friends of Myrtle Park group including a public meeting planned on Tuesday 16th October.

Play in the Park days in July and August
The Play in the Park sessions in July and August – at Cottingley, Crossflatts and Eldwick Recs and in Myrtle Park – proved a great success with local families, with an estimated average of 150 people at each event. The events were delivered by Bradford Council and commissioned and paid for by Bingley Town Council.
Worries about a stormy weather forecast for the Cottingley event proved to be unfounded, and instead visitors enjoyed hot sunshine and activities including a bouncy castle, den-building and other sports and games. The good weather held for the other events, which all featured queues for ice-cream! The Council discussed the sessions at its meeting on 28th August and resolved to contact Bradford Council to express an interest in further events next year.

Bingley summer markets
Our third summer market took place on Saturday 4th August and was a lovely occasion, with excellent weather and most of the traders reporting their best sales yet. Our thanks to all our volunteers, including Mrs Mactivity who oversaw our rock painting activities for children, and we’re grateful to Adele Hepworth, our face painter for the day, and to the Ukulele Band, Chevin Consort Recorder Group and the All Together Now Choir who provided lively entertainment.
The next market, the last of the four pilot events, will take place on Saturday 6th October (there is no event in September due to a clash with Bingley Music Live in Myrtle Park). We’ll be looking to get your feedback on the markets, and, in the meantime, any leads to help us attract a fruit and veg trader would be particularly welcome!
