What is the FFL?

We are about barrier-free community baseball. A series of four Beacon Hill Family Fun events will take place every Saturday afternoon in September at Eastvale Park in Beacon Hill North.

Music, a barbeque, draws, fun events and prizes will all be part of the program. It is not limited to people living in Beacon Hill – it’s open to anyone, anywhere! All ages (kids and adults), genders, abilities, levels of experience, etc.

Update on the FFL

You know that you're on to a good idea when you put it out there and the response is overwhelming. Thanks so much to the people who have registered to attend and the many sponsors who have lined up to donate prizes, funds and offer other support. We've even had media interest and we'll be appearing on CBC Radio's All in a Day this Tuesday, September 4th around 3:15 p.m. We'll be sure to post a link to the podcast afterwards!

Many of you have also indicated you would be happy to volunteer. We definitely need you and we will be in touch with you directly over the next couple of days! Later in this bulletin you find the list of the help and supplies we still need. If you want to help out, just fill out the registration form on our website and indicate you'd like to volunteer.

First a few things to keep in mind:

You don't have to register to attend. You can show up at the events and have fun. It just really helps us to have a sense of how many are coming on each of the Saturdays. Please register if you can but don't decide not to come because you haven't filled out a form!
You don't have to live in Beacon Hill. Our events are open to anyone, anywhere.
You don't have to play baseball. There will be lots of things to keep you busy and entertained - a bbq, draws, etc. There is also a playground next to the field.

This is barrier-free, community baseball - made just for you!

Some of the things we need

Remember, all proceeds from our events will go to the Miracle League of Ottawa.

Equipment

Gas barbecue(s) (brought on site and taken away each Saturday)
Sound system including loud speakers and microphone on two dates - September 8 and 29 (we already have a Beacon Hill DJ on the 15th and 22nd)
Gazebo tents for shade and protecting a/v equipment in inclement weather
A gas generator for electrical power at the field (and gas!)

Entertainment

As indicated above, we have a local DJ for two of the dates but we're still on the hunt for a DJ or good local band to entertain during the events on September 8 and 29. Do you have any ideas?
Are you a local entertainer, busker or mascot? Let us know if you'd like to participate!
Are you interested in setting up a table at our events? These may include community organizations, non-profits and local businesses with samples or promo items.

Supplies

Burgers, hot dogs, veggie versions, buns, drinks, condiments
First aid supplies (and First Aid person!)
Prizes (promo items, gift certificates, etc.)

It would be great if you could print out our poster in English or French and display it at your work or business. If you're really feeling enterprising, why not print some out and put them in your neighbour's mailboxes!
