Keeping in touch - August 2018

View this email in your browser
Parliament’s been in recess during August, so I’ve been visiting groups and meeting people in Sheffield, as well as taking a break for a couple of weeks. I’ve also been finalising my annual community consultation, the Big Conversation, which starts soon. I hope that you’ll join me at an event and fill in my survey to let me know your views and shape my work over the next 12 months.

The Big Conversation

14th Sep - 6th Oct

What is the Big Conversation?

I’m keen to hear your concerns and views all year round, but at the start of each Parliamentary year I organise around 40 open meetings, café and pub drop-ins, street surgeries and other events across the constituency.

Volunteers deliver 40,000 surveys to every household, and it’s available online, to give everyone the chance to have your say.

The Big Conversation helps shape my work in Parliament (you can read how it’s made a difference in previous years here and here).

What people say about the Big Conversation

During recess...

… I've met with Mums United to discuss their campaign against knife crime, visited SAYiT to talk with LGBT+ young people, and held a lively Q&A with young people on the NCS programme

I took part in a roundtable event organised by the Star on how we can promote Sheffield better; joined with other northern MPs to call for an extra £100bn investment in northern transport; and backed a cross-party initiative to defend maintained nursery schools.

I also joined local Body Shop staff in their campaign with Cruelty Free International to end animal testing for cosmetics.

Help spread the word

I need volunteers to help get Big Conversation information and surveys to over 40,000 homes. Could you deliver on your street? Get in touch if you can.
