Kneemail from Saint James Church

August 29, AD 2018

FROM THE RECTOR:

Dear Parishioners & Friends of St James,

My sincere thanks to everyone who made last Sunday’s 142nd anniversary such a success.  Particular thanks are due to Tracy Jones and DeMita Torrans who headed up the Reception after Mass.  Bishop Lawton was very impressed with our parish, and was singing our praises when he left!  He thought our people were friendly, and our music outstanding, and I couldn’t agree more.  There were some familiar faces missing, but I’m assuming you were out of town, and offered up a prayer of thanksgiving for the parish wherever you were.

As you will see from the Upcoming Events section of this Knee Mail, things are falling into place for the Fall.  I have made requests for help from many people, and without exception, the answer has been “Yes, Father,” which are—as you know—the two most important words in any parish!

That being said, I need your help in two areas:

LAY EUCHARISTIC VISITORS.  Lay Eucharistic Visitors are laypersons who are licensed to take the Blessed Sacrament to the sick and shut in on an occasional basis, a pressing concern as we have only one priest at present.  Once I hear from those willing to help, a training will be scheduled.

CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD volunteers.  These adults lead the children’s chapel each Sunday, which takes place during the first part of the 10am Mass.  If we had enough volunteers, you would need do this only twice each term. The children will, in fact, minister to you!  If you’re worried about missing the sermon, we’re endeavoring to get those on the website.

If you are willing to help with either/both of these, please let me know: therector@saintjamestxk.org.  “Yes, Father.”

Finally, on Sunday, September 9th, we will be holding a ministry fair in the Great Hall between the Sunday Masses.  This is an opportunity for you to learn more about how you can help exercise your ministry in/to the body of Christ in this place.  Light breakfast will be served if that further motivates you.

Yours with every blessing,

Rev. Douglas Anderson, Rector
