Hi, everybody! I hope you're enjoying the last few days of August. Such a wonderful month.
*sigh*
But September brings a buzz of activity in the writing world, so let's get to the news!

Wrapping up God Awful 3

I have really enjoyed writing the third and final book in the God Awful series. At one point, there was so much to keep straight with so many scenes that I decided to set them to strips of paper to better "see" how they fit together. It worked. Sometimes changing a writing process can do wonders.

We expect the book to release in late 2018. In the meantime...

Here's a giveaway

I'll be giving away pairs of God Awful Loser and God Awful Thief over the next few months in anticipation of the release of the third book. If you already have these, thank you for supporting my work :) --  and feel free to give the pair to a friend. It's always good to share reads.

You don't need to do anything for this giveaway. You're already entered. I'll draw a name September 30th, at noon Central Time and contact the winner via email. I'll also cover shipping costs.

Also...

... please do remember that authors depend on word of mouth for their success. If you enjoyed a God Awful book, please leave a review on Amazon. Even one sentence helps a potential reader find a book they might enjoy. Thanks!

My peeps

When people find out I'm a writer, they often ask how to write their own story and how to learn about publishing.

There's no shortage of books and websites with great information on those and other topics, but I usually suggest, as with any vocation, they find their people. I'm a firm believer that surrounding yourself with groups that support you is essential for your growth and happiness. Also, the people in those groups have skills you can learn and eventually share with others.

My people have been within the  Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. It's the world's largest professional organization for creators who specify in books for children and teens, and I've mentioned them before. The picture above is of a group of us meeting to discuss the programming we'd like to see in the coming year. As usual, the calendar looks exceptional.

I'm also thrilled to announce that I'm Wisconsin's first Indie/Self-Publishing Coordinator, which means that I'll be helping those who are interested in self-publishing with finding resources and connections to get started.

If you're thinking about writing, I highly recommend you consider joining a writing group. If you have questions about SCBWI or just want to chat about books, feel free to hit me up on my author page at Amazon, Goodreads, Facebook, or my website.

Illustration Intensive 2019

Registration is open for Wisconsin's newest illustration event. As you can see from the above photo (I'm at the bottom left, next to my husband), we had a big group and had a great time in 2018. If you're an artist (or one of those amazing author/illustrators), you'll definitely want to sign up for 2019.

Fantasy Art Workshop’s Illustration Intensive is created by my illustrator husband, Jeff Miracola, and me. It has an incredible Guest of Honor, the celebrated Thomas Blackshear II, along with a yet-to-be announced Guest Art Director of Honor. Two guest faculty members join the acclaimed three core faculty artists to give presentations, demonstrate painting techniques, and more. The five-day workshop takes place June 17-21, 2019, at Milwaukee's Alverno College. Registration includes the workshop, housing, and food. Beginners and professionals, in all genres, working digitally or traditionally, are welcome. You don't have to be a fantasy artist, so come join the fun and share the news.
