What's In a Ranking? Ask CCNY Students
For the seventh consecutive year, The City College of New York is listed among the top institutions in the nation by The Princeton Review®. In the Princeton Review surveys, students cite diversity, faculty, research opportunities, campus activities and "taking our education and future careers seriously" as hallmarks of their CCNY experience. Also this month, City College is named among Forbes' America's Top Colleges of 2018 for the direct benefits of a CCNY education.

Expert Probes Cellular Sensors for Bone Health
"Bones are like muscles; you either use it or lose it," says Distinguished Professor Mitchell B. Schaffler, Wallace H. Coulter and Presidential Professor of Biomedical Engineering at CCNY's Grove School of Engineering. With a new $3.2 million grant from the National Institutes of Health, Schaffler will investigate how changes in cellular-level sensors contribute to the development of osteoporosis and bone fragility.

At Pixar, Animator Advances Craft and Pedagogy
Fresh from a Pixar Animation Studios Story Development Summit for educators, Pilar Newton, adjunct professor of Electronic Design and Multimedia within CCNY's Division of Humanities and the Arts, returns with master class insights on storytelling and critique for her animation students. "The end goal," Newton notes, "is to help students come away with a strong portfolio piece that helps them get the attention of festivals and studios."

Summer Research Takes Learning to Next Level
In a Division of Science dedicated to providing undergraduate research opportunities, four CCNY students and peers from six institutions nationwide spent the summer in City College's selective summer program Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biodesign Research Experience for Undergraduates, B3-REU for short. Described as a faculty-mentored "close-up view of how science really happens," B3-REU is directed by CCNY Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry David Jeruzalmi and supported by the National Science Foundation.

I Am CCNY: Daniela Agudelo, Class of 2020
Majors:
Bilingual Childhood Education and Psychology. After taking three years off following my third semester of Environmental Engineering and working full time as a youth soccer program supervisor, I realized I wanted to pursue Education. As a native Spanish speaker and ELL student, I chose to honor and support the immigrant community I belong to by adding that bilingual aspect to my pedagogy studies at CCNY. As for Psychology, I saw a great opportunity for both majors to complement each other and aid in my own development as an educator.
CCNY Activity: Women's Soccer team
CCNY Highlight: Returning after a three-year gap with a purpose set in mind and having support around me from professors, advisors and coaches set me up for success. I made my comeback, stronger than ever.
