Two Rock Ranch Vendor 411

Two Rock Ranch was launched as Sonoma County Sheep Company in the rolling hills of West Petaluma, California, near the town of Two Rock in 2010. Because of continuous drought conditions on the west coast, as well as the high cost of land and feed, the ranch was moved to the east coast, in the beautiful foothills of the Helderberg Mountains. At that time the name of the operation changed to Two Rock Ranch in honor of the place it started!

Located at 78 Turner Road in Berne, NY, Two Rock Ranch is a sustainable, biodynamic farm that produces pasture raised lambs as well as a select CSA which provides lamb on a regular weekly basis to customers and free delivery on custom orders. We also produce a small amount of free-range eggs!

Two
Rock Ranch raises White Dorpers, a breed known for its mild flavor and excellent quality. This is a hair breed and the resulting meat does not have a “muttony” flavor like wool breeds of sheep. The animals are nourished in the growing season by pasture grass, herb forage, essential minerals and water; in winter they are fed farm grown hay and purchased locally grown organic grass hay. Eating grass, legumes, cereals, and herbs is the natural way for sheep resulting in less total fat, less saturated fat, less cholesterol and fewer calories. It has more vitamin E, more beta-carotene, more vitamin C, and even more importantly, has two health-promoting fats called omega-3 fatty acids and “conjugated linoleic acid,” or CLA. It creates a truly superior eating experience!

As a result of this thoughtful care, the sheep at Two Rock Ranch are free of stress, hormones, antibiotics and heavily processed feed. In addition, because field rotation has been implemented, we have less deworming needs. Handling is minimal to reduce stress in the animals. Stress can remain in a sheep’s system for up to two weeks, and the hormones associated with stress will also add a poor flavor to the meat.

Rock Two Rock Ranch is a Pride of New York farm listed with Minority Farmer USDA, and it partners with Albany County Soil and Water Conservation, USDA, FSA, and NRCS. We are so excited to be a part of the Delmar Farmer Market and look forward to providing our lamb during the winter months to the 2018 Indoor Delmar Market! You will mainly be seeing Alexis! She hails from Indiana and is proud to represent our farm!

We welcome farm visits from patrons with appointments! We will also be hosting a LAMBganza this fall when all of our babies are being born! Sure to delight all ages! See you at the Market!
