Happy September, Baltimore Road Runners Club!

Here is a difference destination race trip report that the BRRC race community can appreciate!

I had great fun running a challenging 20k trail race in beach sand on a hot and humid late August evening in Wilmington, North Carolina.  The race was four 5K laps (with a relay option).  There was also optional beer, lots of optional beer.  There were hundreds of young runners; this was a young person’s race. I was the second oldest in the 20K, my bride was 3rd oldest.  They allowed handicaps for age, gender, and beer:  2 minutes a lap for each beer, and in my case, a gracious 21 more minutes for my experience.   I am good at this.  I would have finished first male, except my age onset of dementia was too much burden for me, and I failed to turn in my finished beer cups properly!  Fair enough, a younger mind can follow rules better, maybe.  In any case, great fun!

What makes running great is the community of running as a lifestyle, a lifestyle for all ages and paces.  BRRC is the best example I have of embracing running for all ages and paces.  You were with us in spirit in Wilmington, as I enjoyed carrying our symbolic flag in sportsmanship, inclusiveness, fitness, and a lifetime of the pursuit of happiness.   Thanks!!

We were in between BRRC races the last few weeks, but your BRRC is very busy!  We are near completion of the big project to launch our new website in the coming weeks, and are looking forward to that.  Our current award winning website has been a noble servant, having served us for several years.  However, it is time to move on, and we will be mobile friendly, and much more.   Look for, and look forward to, the change at www.brrc.com soon!

Next Race!  Sunday, September 23rd, the 39th running of the Executive Stampede 5K!
Registration is now open! Click here to register.

The Stampede is our longest running race.  The entrees and donations for this race are our major funding source for The Charlie Reynolds Scholarship Fund, and this year, we presented $6,000 in scholarships to area high school seniors, so thank you!

We have race day and online signups at https://thedriven.net/event.race_reg/eid/10166234567

We encourage you to sign up online, guarantee your shirt size, and support our long standing scholarship program!   Of course there are team awards, and BRRC has a long tradition of doing well in the Non-Profit Division.   When you sign up online, or race day, just note that you are on the BRRC team!

The 2017 Non-Profit Team winners...BRRC!

Volunteers will receive swag and thanks, contact Jim at jamesjwaller@yahoo.com or info@brrc.com if you would like to volunteer or if you have questions.

Our next Trail Race is the Second Annual BRRC’s “NIGHT MOVES”! Baltimore’s FIRST NIGHT TRAIL RACE!

Bring your light, this is the real deal! I am longing to see that conga line of lights and runners on the single track trail in Baltimore!  Thanks to the Friends of Cromwell Valley Park and Talmar!  The race will start just after sundown in beautiful Cromwell Valley Park.  The race is 6-ish miles, with a 4 mile cutoff option, starting and ending in the Talmar area and includes some "rolling" hills and fast single track along with a fast downhill finish.  Finishers receive a high quality stainless steel growler just waiting to be filled with 64oz of your favorite refreshing beverage, and an optional free beer on us at McFaul’s IronHorse Tavern, adjacent to the park.  Grab your light and come celebrate participating in an historic run with us!  We expect a good crowd of runners here, especially for a single track trail run, so I would sign up online and soon.

                                         Upcoming Races

On Sunday, October 7th , we will have our GPS NCR half marathon in Sparks.  Typically at this time of year, the weather turns cooler, and your pace picks up.  For many of us, this half marathon is the ideal tuneup run for the marathon season, or for dialing in a longer goal race.  This is the 8th of 9 Grand Prix Races, our longest GPS run, but like all of our events, the race is open to anyone.  Race day only entry, this may be approached as a low key run……but any time you go 13.1, it is the real deal!   Enjoy the run, and see you there!  Fast, straightforward running, on the famous packed limestone NCR trail.
