A Quick Update about Water Conservation Efforts and Activities

Districts Form Historic Partnership to Enhance Water Reliability

The boards of the San Bernardino Valley Water Conservation District and San Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District voted this month to pursue a partnership agreement that will draw from the best of both districts to promote a brighter future for groundwater storage and the protection of threatened species in this region. In a rare joint meeting, the two boards took action to develop a partnership agreement that will serve the Upper Santa Ana River Wash Plan, the Upper Santa Ana River Habitat Conservation Plan and complete projects to recharge water into the Bunker Hill Basin for use during dry years. Local Newspapers Publish Op-Ed in Support of Groundwater Council

San Bernardino Valley Water Conservation District General Manager Daniel Cozad and San Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District General Manager Doug Headrick published an opinion piece this month in Southern California News Group's inland newspapers, explaining why the San Bernardino Basin Groundwater Council is the right approach to water management in our region. Butterfly Garden

Mill Creek Rocks Beautify Preserve
The Wildlands Conservancy in Oak Glen is using 322 tons of rock donated by District staff from the District's Mill Creek property to enhance the gardens used by the organization for public education. More than 100,000 students have participated in the Oak Glen outdoor education program since its inception in 2002. Shown here, is the start of a butterfly garden planned as part of the preserve's popular nature trail. A desert garden and conservation diorama area are also planned.
