Volunteer sessions Autumn 2018

Dear <<First Name>>
After the hottest summer on record, gardens in the City are recovering and there are lots of gardening opportunities coming up.
Please let me know in advance which session you would like to join so I can make sure we have the right number of tools and equipment ready and we don't move off without you!

Tree Walk in the City 1st October 14.00 - 16.00
Jake Tibbetts, the City Gardens Manager will be taking us on a tour of some of the remarkable trees in the City including the famous stinky Ginkos! Ginkos are either male or female  - so come and find out which sex is the smelliest! Please contact sarah.hudson192@btinternet.com to book your FREE place.

Bunhill Fields  - every Monday 10.00 - 12.30 starting 17 September until 4 November
working sessions on the dry shade bed and woodland wildlife area
Leaves are starting to fall and plants dying back so we need to do some cutting back and clearing. Join us for one or more regular Monday sessions  to get the garden ready for winter. Let me know which sessions you would like to join.

Bat talk and walk in the Barbican - 11 October 18.00 - 20.30

Join us for a short talk on the ecology of bats followed by a walk around the Barbican gardens where we should see pipistrelles. Learn to use a heterodyne bat detector and hear their calls as they feed on flying insects.
Contact sarah.hudson192@btinternet.com to book your FREE place.

And finally....
You may have noticed that our lovely Barbican Station pop up garden that we created in April 2015 has now been removed. The platform and railbed are about to be repurposed as a siding for underground trains. All the trees and shrubs have been rehomed by the Friends of Gypsy Hill Station and a cub and scout group in Croydon. The smaller plants are now flourishing in various gardens in the City. TfL will shortly be removing the planters to other locations on the underground network.
We would like to thank all the amazing volunteers who kept the garden in such beautiful condition over the years, who decorated the Christmas trees and gave talks and tours at Open Gardens Weekends and to the team of volunteers from Moore Stephens who helped to remove all the plants and trees.

I'll look forward to seeing you soon.
Best wishes
Sarah
