Meet our new staff

CCOC is happy to welcome two new members to our team. Amanda Tompkins joins us as CCOC's Director of Finance, and Erica Joynt is CCOC's newest Tenant Service Representative.
Amanda Tompkins
Erica Joynt
Amanda is a Chartered Professional Account (CPA, CA) with a varied background in both the public and private sectors. Her time acting in the role of Director of Finance and Corporate Services at the Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre inspired her to make the transition to the non-profit sector. Amanda has a passion for helping people, and is looking forward to putting her finance skills to use to do good in the community. Over the next few months Amanda will be taking over from Lorraine Salvo, who is retiring in the new year.

Erica has her Bachelor of Arts in Political Studies from the University of Manitoba. She has worked as a tour guide for a number of Canadian landmarks including the Parliament of Canada, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, and the Exchange District National Historic Site of Canada. With her experience engaging diverse audiences Erica is excited to work for an organization that believes in affordable housing and fostering community.

Thanksgiving - Office Closed

Le bureau de CCOC sera fermé le lundi, 8 octobre pour l'Action de grâce.
Le bureau sera ouvert à 9h00 le mardi, 9octobre.

The CCOC office will be closed on Monday, October 8 for Thanksgiving.
We will re-open at 9:00 am on Tuesday, October 9.

We're hiring!

CCOC is hiring for the position of Director, Tenant and Community Engagement.

The Tenant and Community Engagement Director will be a capacity builder, motivator, and advocate for CCOC tenants and volunteers. They'll coordinate our corporate advocacy efforts in partnership with other community organizations and ensure we maintain our reputation as a "loud and proud" affordable housing provider.

This Director will grow our efforts to engage volunteers that reflect the full diversity of CCOC tenants. They will understand the importance of having everyone at the table, and be able to bridge the gap between daily issues and governance to recruit, retain, and engage volunteers.

The Tenant and Community Engagement Director will focus on working with CCOC tenants and their neighbours to improve quality of life.

Halloween in CCOC Buildings

CCOC has decorations to lend to tenants interested in decorating their building's lobby. We also have some funds for tenant gatherings to celebrate seasonal events.

If you're interested in decorating your lobby, or organizing a tenant gathering or treat giving, contact Natalia by email or by calling 613-695-6922 ext. 252.

Getting Ready for Winter

Turning on the heat

CCOC turns the heat on in late September/ early October. In the larger buildings, it can take a few days for the boiler system to build up enough heat to start distributing it to each of the apartments.

Locking up the roof decks

For safety reasons, CCOC locks the doors to the roof decks the last week of October. The roof decks will re-open in the spring once all of the snow and ice have melted.

Turning off outdoor taps

If you have an outdoor tap, shut off the water to the outside tap from the pipe shut-off inside, then drain the line by turning on the outside tap.

Phantom power

Even when they're turned off, most household appliances are still using energy.

Help shrink your environmental impact and electricity bill with these simple tips to reduce phantom power:

• Unplug the devices you're not using.
• Use a power bar with an on/off switch. Turn it off when you're not using it.
• Make sure the power bar is in an easily accessible area.

Committee volunteer opportunities

Our Finance and Facilities Management committees are recruiting!

Our Finance Committee deals with the financial administration of CCOC, its investments and long-term viability. The Facilities Management Committee (FMC) deals with the care of CCOC properties. If it has to do with keeping our buildings and your home looking good and working well, this committee is responsible.

Finance Committee meets the third Wednesday of each month and FMC meets the second Thursday. Both meetings start at 7:00 pm. CCOC can pay for bus fare and family care — just ask!

To get involved, email membership@ccochousing.org or call 613-234-4065 ext. 0.

Preserving workshop

Join CCOC for another gardening workshop in partnership with Just Food! This workshop will primarily focus on hot water bath canning to allow you to enjoy nature's bounty throughout the winter months.

October 16 from 6-8 pm in the 464 Metcalfe Meeting Room
RSVP to natalia.snajdr@ccochousing.org or 613-695-6922 ext. 252.
