At COTS Youth we aim to be real in our faith, have fun, & meet each person where they are.
Every youth can belong.

Have you signed up for the retreat?  Don't miss this great experience!

Capture the Flag

Who:    Youth in grades 6-8.  Friends are ALWAYS invited, so invite them!

Parents: This tends to be a popular outing - can a couple of you join us?  It's an especially fun one to be a part of.

REQUIRED:  Youth Medical Info and Permission Slip

   When:  THIS Friday, Sept 14, 7:00 - 9:00 pm

Where:  Meet and pick up in the Jr Youth Room (down the stairs just inside the carport entrance of the church).

What:    Can we Light the Way?   We'll chew on that a bit before we carpool to the park for some as-intense-as-you-prefer-to-make-it CTF.  The weather looks great.  Bring a friend and wear shoes that can get a little muddy, because it's likely to be a little soft in some places.

Why:     Capture the Flag is fun.  Opportunities to run like crazy.  Opportunities to chat with your friends.  Opportunities to make new ones!

COTS Jr Youth Fall Retreat

Friday, Sep 28, 5:30 pm - Sunday, Sep 30, 12:15 pm

Think you can't make a difference because you're in Jr High? You could make ALL the difference.
YOU can Light the Way.

We get away to Camp Asbury in Hiram, OH, for a couple days & through games & activities we get to know each other & God better.  It's a beautiful setting.  We'll do the (appropriately named) Giant Swing. Capture the Flag over dozens of acres. And lots more.  Friends are invited!

It is THE BEST way for the youth to gel as a group
AND it's fun.

NOTE: While we don't want anyone to miss anything, sometimes it's unavoidable.  Camp Asbury is about 45 mins away - it's fine to bring your youth out late or to pick up early.

Deadline to Register is September 20.

The 6th & 7th graders are crossing the River Jordan this Sunday for 11am class!  Contact Brian Broadbent at bbroadbent@bvuvolunteers.org for details.

Our philosophy?

1) Consider worshiping together as a family.
Why?  It's our once/week opportunity to worship God together as a community - and our children and youth are part of it.  They learn from watching and being with you.  Every time another person engages in worship, the experience of every other person in the room is richer.

2) For parents and youth: Consider engaging in a small group - like Sunday School.
Why?  If we don't chew on and wrestle with and push back on and seek to grow in our faith and our understanding of who God is, we end up with all sorts of unrealized potential in our relationship with God.

Too much for your family?  We get it - it may be a lofty goal.  Maybe worship together one week and do Sunday School the next.  Let Curt know if you have questions or want ideas or would like more info on children's, youth, or adult Sunday School and small group opportunities.

What's Coming Up?

 Night Hike at Squire's Castle

Friday, Sep 21, 7:00 - 10:30 pm
Some say it's haunted.  Others say it's stalked by wild bears and angry squirrels.  Whatever it is, it's fun to try to find as you and your friends hike the dark trails of the North Chagrin Reservation.

Something to Think About....

For the longest time as a kid I hated exiting my basement at night.  Why?  The light switch was at the bottom of the steps.  I'd turn it off, calmly take the first step or two, then panic and race up the rest, just escaping the grasp of whatever it is that lurks in the darkness of basements.

The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness doesn’t extinguish the light.

--- John 1:5 (CEB)

Darkness still impacts me - but it's not the physical darkness that's a problem.  It's the weighty cloud of gloom and worry and anxiety and meanness that emerges in times when I'm feeling further from Jesus.  But ALWAYS, Jesus shines a light through that darkness - usually through a kid or youth or adult that I'm blessed to have in my life.

Take a minute to talk with God - who might Jesus be using to shine a light in your life?  Who might God be calling YOU to be a light to?
