To add or remove names from this list, contact
pastor@debowsumc.org.
All prayer requests go directly to the pastor.
Anyone interested in sharing their gift of music can contact our Music Director, Grayce Armstrong, at music@debowsumc.org.  Currently, the choir rehearses on Fridays at 5:00pm and the band practices on Fridays at 6:00pm.  Please check the church website calendar for any exceptions or changes to this schedule.

The Christmas Cantata will be presented during the worship service on Sunday, December 16th.  Grayce will be selecting music and scheduling rehearsals for the Cantata in the near future.  Please let Grayce know if you wish to participate in this year's Cantata.  This will greatly assist in the planning process.

The DeBows Prayer Shawl Ministry started in 2008. Since then, many people have donated their time and talents to create hand-knitted and crocheted shawls to give to those who need healing prayers and the warmth & comfort these shawls can provide. We are extremely grateful to everyone who has contributed to this ministry by making prayer shawls.

While we know some of these people quite well, there are many unnamed contributors that deserve our thanks and acknowledgement. They may be related to members of our church family; mothers, mothers-in-law, sisters, aunts, friends, etc. If you know any of these unnamed contributors, please convey our heartfelt “Thanks”. Without them, our Prayer Shawl Ministry would not have been able to touch the lives of so many in need. God bless each and every one of them.

This is an on-going ministry and prayer shawls are collected throughout the year. The prayer shawls are distributed year-round to members of our faith community that are in need of prayer and during the Advent season when the church visits shut-ins and area Nursing Homes.

The need for prayer shawls is continuous and finished shawls may be given to any church member or dropped off at the church. You can find patterns and other information concerning how to make a prayer shawl at www.shawlministry.com.

Again, many thanks to those who have participated in this ministry.

--- Thank You ---
Formula for Hope Mission Campaign
“Thank You” to all who participated in the “Formula for Hope” mission activity to help at risk infants and children supported by the Children’s’ Home Society. Over the summer we asked people to fill baby bottles with spare change.  On Sunday, September 9, we collected the bottles and are happy to report that we collected $556.37. We will be sending that amount to the Children's Home Society.  Again, "Thank You" for sharing God's love and making a difference in our community.

Wednesday Bible Study
11:30 AM

The Wednesday Bible Study meets every Wednesday from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM.  There will be an optional prayer time in the sanctuary at 11:15 AM, prior to the bible study.  Currently, Pastor Denise is leading the Alpha Bible Study.  Occasionally they will share a lunch together. Everyone is welcome to attend this bible study; come one, come all.

Seeking
Housekeeping Job
Frances Hartley has been coming to our church for the past few months.  She is in need of housekeeping employment.  She is willing to work any hours at a very reasonable rate and will clean windows, scrub floors, etc.  She will need transportation and has no phone.  If you can use her services or know of someone who can use them, please contact her any Sunday before or after the worship service or contact Anita at 848-373-9304.

New Fall Worship Banners
Sunday, September 23 is the first day of Fall.  This Sunday, you will notice new banners in the chancel area of the sanctuary commemorating the season.  These banners will enhance our worship space and remind us of God's bounty and faithfulness.  The worship committee also obtained candle joiners.  These brass joiners will allow us to couple two used altar candle stubs together, thus significantly increasing the burn time from a box of candles.  This will help us better manage costs going forward.

Together, the two banners and two candle joiners cost $202.  If you would like to help cover the cost of these items, a donation box will be made available during Fellowship Time after each worship service.  As a token of our appreciation, people who make a donation may select a UMC Cross & Flame symbol in the form of either a pendant or lapel pin.  The Worship Committee thanks you for your continued support . . . Grocery Shopping Cards

Every week during Fellowship Time, you have the opportunity to purchase grocery store shopping cards for either Shoprite or Stop & Shop.  This is a convenient way to pay for the food you buy at the grocery store and at the same time support the ministries of DeBows UMC.  The church makes 5% of all shopping cards sold. You may see Sue Hayward or Marilyn Allerton to purchase the shopping cards on any Sunday.

DeBows will be conducting the following fundraising events this fall.  Funds raised during these events will be used to support the ministry programming at DeBows.  More details and order forms will be made available as each fundraising event becomes active.

September 16 thru October 7
Rada cutlery will be on sale from Sunday, September 16 thru Sunday, October 7.  During this time, orders may also be placed during the Church Flea Market on Saturday, October 6.  DeBows will receive 50% of the total order amount.  Order forms are available on the tables outside of Fellowship Hall. Please make all checks payable to "DeBows UMC".  Rada cutlery is super sharp and, after restocking your kitchen, make great gifts.  The "Tomato Knife" is awesome --- just saying!  All orders must be submitted to Anita Chichester by Sunday, October 7.

September 16 thru October 14
Items from the Yankee Candle brochure will be on sale from Sunday, September 16 thru Sunday, October 14.  DeBows will receive 40% of the total order amount. Order forms are available on the tables outside of Fellowship Hall. Please make all checks payable to "DeBows UMC".  Along with candles,  Fall & Christmas themed items are also available.  All orders must be submitted to Sue Hayward by Sunday, October 14.

Saturday, October 6

DeBows will hold its annual Flea Market on Saturday, October 6 8am-2pm. Table space is $10/space (table not provided) and there will be a food concession with breakfast & lunch items. The church will also have a table at the flea market.  See the posted sign-up sheet to support this event.  If you would like to be a vendor at the flea market, please see the sign-up sheet or call Sue Hayward at 732-928-0352 to reserve table space.  If you plan to donate items for the church table, please bring those items to the church anytime on or after Sunday, September 30.  Items can be placed on the stage in Fellowship Hall.

Also, along with the church table, the church will have a "Plant Shed", offering assorted plants suitable for replanting. Is your garden getting crowded?  Does it need some dividing?  Give your garden some space and help the church at the same time.  If you are dividing your plants, please do it a day or two before the Flea Market so they don’t wilt.  Hosta and lilies divide easily.  Please put them in a plastic bag and label them along with short care instructions.  If you have any questions, please see Anita.  Your garden thanks you!  And so does the church!

Orders Due by Sunday, November 11

On Sunday, November 11th, we will total all submitted Scrip Gift Card order forms and place the bulk order.  All gift card orders must be received by Sunday, November 11th.  The order forms and information are on the table in the foyer outside of Fellowship Hall.  The church receives a percentage of the total sale (actual percentage depends on the specific gift cards ordered per the order form).  All order forms must be submitted with a check made out to "DeBows UMC".  Please give your completed forms and checks to Sue Hayward. Ordered gift cards will be received in time to use for Christmas shopping and/or gifts.  This will be the last bulk gift card order in 2018.

November
DeBows will conduct a Gertrude Hawk Candy fundraiser sometime in November.  Watch for more details in the near future.
DeBows UMC
2nd & 4th Monday Each Month
The next Food Pantry distribution is Monday, September 24

The DeBows UMC Food Pantry received a laptop from Fulfill to use for online registration & electronic signatures, and will replace manual paperwork going forward. We are testing the new system in September and will go live either in October or November.  Deb, Anita, and Tom went for training and initially Donna and Anita will be on point for the new registration/signature process, with Deb and Tom as back-up. Also, two members of the Fulfill team came to the 9/10 food pantry to provide some on-site training.  This is one example of how DeBows partners with its supply vendors to streamline operations and enhance our ability to serve more people in our community.

The DeBows Food Pantry is a tangible and meaningful way we share God’s love with our community.  It is open the 2nd & 4th Monday each month from 6:00-8:00pm.  If you would like to volunteer time to support this ministry, please see the sign-up sheet outside of Fellowship Hall.  You may contact Deb Cregle for more information.
