WELCOME TO THE SEPTEMBER NEWSLETTER

Welcome to another Newsletter. Well done to our new Club Captains Scarlett and Leo, we look forward to seeing you poolside!

Good luck to all swimmers who have gone into transition to new squads and hope its all going well.  Its getting quite busy for competitions now so please remember these points;

"We have a lot of competitions over the course of a year and those who compete regularly should be thinking about entering a variety of events and not just sticking to their favourite strokes all the time. Be brave and try something different, you might surprise yourself.

Shona Skakle does a huge amount of work sending out emails, processing entries then checking and putting out programmes to accepted swimmers. Then doing lots of withdrawals for swimmers who can’t, for various reasons, make the competition.

There are always deadlines for entries so if you can get back to Shona by her deadline it does make things a lot easier for her and then she does not have to send out reminders. Fiona"

COMPETITIONS

IAIN MACFADYEN MEMORIAL GALA

1.09.18

This is a gala that is very important to Inverleith as Iain Macfadyen was a founder member of Inverleith  & he coached with the club for many years as well as officiating at club, district & national levels.

This year for some reason the competition was very undersubscribed so it was reduced to a morning session only which meant some of our swimmers had to withdraw as they could not make the morning. We had 13 swimmers who took part & all swam a number of events over the morning. There was a short break to do presentations so the swimmers had a bit of a rest between swims.

The swimmers produced 36 PB’s (Personal Best Swims) between them which was fantastic considering we have not been back training that long & some swimmers did not swim over the summer. Our swimmers left jingling with lots of medals which was great.

Inverleith came second to Tranent who had a bigger team than us so we did very well & that was without any relays as we did have the right age-groups for the mixed relays.

Tranent 228 points
Inverleith 190 points

INFORMATION EVENING - FOLLOW UP

Thanks to all those who attended the information evening in September.

The feedback we received was that those who had attended found it useful to talk to all those who attended and find out more about the club and about competitions.

I know there were some people who were unable to attend and who were interested to hear more about competitions.

I had intended to come along to the next Huntly and Anderson cups to give parents the opportunity to ask any questions they had there but I am likely to be poolside at Edinburgh Schools in the afternoon and evening.

So I plan to be available at lunchtime at the Club Championships for anyone who wants to ask questions about competitions.

In addition, I am happy to arrange to meet parents individually or in groups if that would be helpful. Sunday during training is probably the best time for me.

If you would like to meet, please email me and we can arrange that.

Competition Secretary

FUNDRAISING FOR PERFORMANCE WINTER CAMP

As you will know we are fundraising to help with the cost of our Winter Training Camp.  The lovely Philippa, (Tom's Mum) has taken on the task of Fundraising Coordinator and has organized a bake sale which was held on the 30th September from 1.30 pm at the Royal Commonwealth Pool.

Both Judith and Helen, (Kate and Orla's Mums) have ran to a car boot sale with generous donations from lots of parents, they made £200!  Well done to them.

Also there may be some bag packing in the pipeline too.  We will keep you posted.
