WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS SECTION

"Dedicated to the Advancement of Quality"

NEWSLETTER

One frequent finding by auditors involves an ineffective Corrective Action System, from having complicated systems, not doing proper Root Cause Analysis or having too many open actions.
Sound familiar? Come to the local ASQ section meeting on Tuesday, 09/11/2018 for an expert presentation that will help you improve your system.
The presentation will focus on prioritizing incoming customer complaints (and other triggers), the Corrective Action process and Corrective Action teams based on perceived risk. And who couldn't use a little more management support for the Corrective Action process? Learn how to get it here.
Kurt Moore will introduce the challenges and Chuck Marsman will give a short presentation on Risk-Based Corrective Action. Question & Answer session will follow.

Presenters: Kurt Moore, Chuck Marsman, Gary Grubbs, Brian Mailhot
Moderator: Mike Szteliga
Bio: Kurt, Chuck, Gary, Brian and Mike together have well over 150 years of experience in quality, safety, engineering and/or manufacturing management - Each dealing with some aspect of root cause investigations and corrective actions almost on a daily basis. These guys have been active members of ASQ for many years, have held leadership positions and have been involved in various section projects and presentations.

From the Nominations Chair:
This is a call for nominations from the general membership that appeared in the last newsletter as well. If you have any interest in serving your section as Chair-Elect, Secretary, or Treasurer in 2019, please contact me (Lorraine Gallica) directly at lagfjord@comcast.net or Mike Szteliga at szteliga@verizon.net to advise us of your interest. This must be done by September 1st in order to be considered. You must meet the following qualifications
. 1) voting member 2) member in good standing 3) member of the section. In addition, a nomination from the general section membership will require the submission of a nomination petition, with at least six signatures, to the section secretary (Kurt Moore ksmoore@ashland.com) prior to September 1st.
Message from the Chair:
I hope that all have had a pleasant summer so far, even though the weather has been more like summer in the Mississippi delta instead of New England.
We now enter into that part of the year where the focus shifts to 2019, specifically nominations, next year’s budget, and next year’s PA (Performance Awards and Recognition). Membership participation and input are key.
We still have unanswered questions concerning management of finances in the coming year. This includes how to pay by check or cash when a debit card is not accepted and what will be the requirements / protocol for changing the budget after ASQ corporate approval.
Like all good Quality professionals, we are developing Plan B (and C, D, etc.) for the contingency that the financing rollout is “less than smooth”!

As always, a huge thank you to all of you for your support of the Section!
Mike
