New volunteer drivers needed as demand for services expected to soar

Hambleton Community Action are urgently needing new volunteer drivers  to meet the increasing demand of requests for help with transport to hospital appointments.
With the recent announcement of cuts to NHS Patient Transport, Hambleton Community Action are looking to step up recruitment of volunteer drivers for its Community Car Scheme.  The scheme offers alternative subsidised transport for people who are unable to access public transport in Northallerton, Bedale and surrounding villages.
The Community Car Scheme project officer, Claire Barnbrook, said “There is a definite increase in demand for transport to hospital appointments in this area, but without the volunteer drivers we would not be able to offer this vital service.  Volunteers decide how much of their free time they wish to give to the scheme and are paid a contribution towards costs for each journey.”
If you live in the Northallerton or Bedale areas and would like to find out more about volunteering for the Community Car Scheme please contact Claire at Hambleton Community Action on 01609 780458 ext 210 or email carscheme@hambletoncommunityaction.org
Details of all the community transport schemes across North Yorkshire can be accessed on www.golocal-northyorks.community
