September 2018
As the cooler weather draws us back indoors, things at BBVE are warming up with the return of our popular Friday Music Nights. Folk, blues, pop, jazz, world beat - every week features a different local artist. It's a fun, affordable (family-friendly and licensed), and stress-free way to unwind from your busy week. Check out our September lineup and remember to save your seat by putting your name on our Advance VIP list: visit or call us at 778-351-0178 during business hours for details.
In The Gallery: Monique Duguay
Colour, texture, shapes, and a lifelong passion for nature and animals come into play on the canvas. But it's the bright, vibrant colour that is the energy that defines my work. I use a wide variety of tools and accessories on my canvasses – brushes, scrapers, palette knives, rollers, sponges, sandpaper, origami paper, scratching, and scraping. I find it immensely satisfying and enjoyable to free myself from the  confines of structure and theory – to let my heart and soul burst forth, freeing the child within to play, dance, and soar.
The SINGULAR exception to our no-cover Friday evenings happens this week as we present a very special House Concert. Armed with words, acoustic guitar, bottleneck dobro, harmonica, porch board bass and snare tambourine, Yukon road poet and master story teller Gordie Tentrees brings the unexpected to Brentwood Bay and beyond: BBVE has the honour of being the very first venue in Gordie's 2018 World Tour which will take him across western Canada and then on to the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and Italy.

Gordie's music is unpretentious, funny, poignant and reflects his colourful past. From boxing ring (a former Golden Gloves boxer), to the stage with stops in between as a school teacher and youth worker amongst the northern First Nations, Gordie is grateful for every experience. "I feel fortunate to have had such unfortunate moments that have enabled me to become who I am on stage, or off, it's that healthy therapeutic high I was lucky to find" says Tentrees. "I got to write out my past, let go and define my future all through song."

Tickets are still available at $20 by calling the Empourium during business hours at 778-351-0178. Doors open at 7pm for food and beverage service.

Co-sponsored by the Brentwood Bay Community Association, all proceeds from BBVE house concert ticket sales go directly to the artist.
Kathy Alexander and David Hilderman: a feel-good live duo doing popular hits, long lost favourites, originals and everything in between. Expect to see epic instrument change-overs, looping, effects and just a plain smile-from-ear-to-ear music cocktail!
