Hurricane Florence Track
9/10/18-10 AM EST

We're currently in Savannah, GA at the end of a visit with family following the Deep South Pastor's Conference, which was so refreshing!  We're flying back to TX tomorrow morning to be back in Ingleside tomorrow evening.

Once we realized that Hurricane Florence was predicted to hit the East Coast in a major way, we started praying about what could do.  Over 14 years ago when we started Calvary Relief, we lived at home in FL and worked normal jobs.  When something happened and we felt God's leading us to help, we left our home to help for a week to a month or so, and then returned home and back to routine life.

Routine life has changed for Mary Jo and me since then.  We believe The LORD has showed us that our home is wherever we're currently serving and our work is whatever we've committed to do to help others after natural disasters.

While praying about Florence, we realized that doing a shorter first response like we did when we first started Calvary Relief was still possible, so that is what we're going to do.  Once we return to TX, we'll begin packing up our truck and tool trailer with the things we need to help out in the wake of Hurricane Florence.  We'll help cut and remove trees and debris, tarp roofs, get water out of flooded homes, etc.  After we've finished our initial response, we'll head back to TX, helping Don get back into his home.  After we've finished Don's, we have one other small commitment and then we're free to move on, possibly even back to the East Coast to help out long-term with Florence.

We have a lot of connections on the East Coast, some of which we've already begun contacting.  We're not sure exactly where we'll end up or how long it will take us to get moving, but our projected arrival to the East Coast would be some time this weekend  or Monday latest.

If you're interested in being part of our team or know someone who is, please contact us.  If you're in an area that may be affected, feel free to reach out to us as we pray about where to set up camp.  After the storm hits, if you need help, let us know.  Even if we aren't in your area, we may know someone who is.

Please, unless you're in an area that has been affected, don't just go in and help.  It may be a few days in some areas until authorities allow anyone in.  It's always best to contact us or someone like us so you know what to do, bring, and then we know to have things set up for you to do and a place to lay your head!!  (To learn more about joining us click here.)  Also, don't just send in things you think people need.  Truck loads of water and supplies will quickly flow into all of the areas that you see in the news, on the weather channels and hear about from all the major organizations.  We'll try to find an area off the beaten path and will let you know the needs we find.  I know a lot of people are not wanting to give money, but if you've ever been affected by a disaster or served alongside of groups like Calvary Relief, you'll know that is always the best option at this point so that we can get what we need, when we need it and not get stuck trying to figure out what to do with what just shows up (creating yet another disaster!). Above all, do NOT send clothing!!  Again, if you stay posted to our facebook account and the occasional email we send out, you'll know what the needs are.  This will more than likely be a long-term recovery effort and help will be needed for a long time.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.  Tomorrow we'll be flying a lot of the day, but will get to you as soon as we can.  Email is best.

If you live in one of the areas where the storm is predicted to come, you need to get ready quickly.  If at all possible, evacuate in areas as directed by your local officials.  Here's a link to some info on our website, click here, then scroll down and click on general preparedness.

On a side note, we had some work planned to do on Don's and Suzanne's in TX as soon as we got back and we were a little concerned about just leaving them while helping out on the East Coast.  We received an email last night from a group of guys in town serving in another area close by.  It's raining a lot in the Ingleside area and supposed to continue all week and the work they were going to do was outside, so they needed something to do.  I was able to get them moving on the plumbing and the rest of the framing at Don's and working on the electrical at Suzanne's.  God is Good ALL the time!!

If you're interested in donating to Calvary Relief's expenses, please click the "Donate Now" button below.  It will take you to our home church's website where you can give on line or if you can, mail a check with the info on the page linked.  While on line giving is easy, PayPal takes a cut of it and we'd prefer that 100% of your donation goes to help Calvary Relief do what we do!  The River Church does NOT take any money from Calvary Relief; they are supported by their congregation separately and they also support Calvary Relief!

There is much to pray for and we along with all of those in Florence's path and other areas that have already suffered loss and possibly will soon, need prayer as well!

LORD Bless,
Curt & Mary Jo
