Aloha and welcome to our third Capital Campaign monthly update!
We are proud to announce that the Green Jobs Training & Community Center has officially been named the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Hoʻokupu Center. Hoʻokupu, which in Hawaiian means the ceremonial presentation of gifts or offerings, not only incorporates Kupu's name, but symbolically evokes the purpose of the Center — to serve as a gift to the community.
“Kupu’s foresight to establish Hoʻokupu as an innovative, educational space for our community is reminiscent of the legacy of Harry and Jeanette Weinberg,” said Corbett Kalama, Executive Vice President, Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, Hawaiʻi. “We have a kuleana to care for the people of Hawaiʻi, and Hoʻokupu is an extension of that belief.”
Last month, the initial installation of plumbing and electrical systems was mostly completed, and exterior infrastructure work and excavation for the grease trap was begun. This month, roof painting, solar tube installation, window and door openings, mezzanine footings and framing, and the makai driveway improvements will be tackled.
This giant grease trap is going to hold a lot.
We are only $170,000 away from our overall budget goal of $6 million. In addition, our Peer-to-Peer fundraiser is now in full swing! We have raised more than $5,000 (20% of our $25,000 goal) through this initiative in just 6 weeks, but we need your help to keep it up. Please help spread the word.
