View this email in your browser
Welcome to the latest edition of the youth update. At the start of this new term, I hope there may be some new resources, training opportunities or ideas here that will be of interest. As ever I'd love to come and visit your youth group and/or team to pray, strategise, train or help come up with new ideas. Do please get in touch and be assured of my prayers for you in this crucial ministry. God bless, Simon

27th - 28th October

This year's Noise weekend in Worcester begins at 9am on Saturday morning with a BIG PROJECT and then we'll be camping on Saturday night with a BBQ and campfire worship. On the Sunday morning we'll wake early for a full day of serving in the city before finishing with a Celebration Service from 6:30pm.
Limited places are available - registration is £40 pp including camping, food and hoodie.

Training - Save the Date

We have two exciting training events coming up in November to get in the diary in plenty of time. More details coming soon:

Stretch and Grow!

24th November 9:30am - 3:30pm, St Thomas Church, Stourbridge
A day dedicated to inspiring, encouraging, resourcing and training all who work with or are surrounded by children and families in churches. Only £5 per ticket, contact Emma to book a place.

Parenting

28th November 7 - 9:30pm, The Old Palace
An evening dedicated to helping parents to support children and teenagers develop faith at school, home and church. Or perhaps you would like to run a parenting course in your parish? Come and have a look at the many courses available to help you decide what would work best for you. With lots of resources on offer, and stories to share, we hope to encourage you to encourage other parents out there!

VR / AR apps for Youth Ministry

Missional Generation are a youth work charity based in Leeds and they are passionate about sharing the gospel in new ways with young people. They are developing Augmented and Virtual Reality resources for youth groups. On their website you can find details of their free apps and purchase VR headsets to try them out on your smart phone. There are also some good video resources on the site too, so do have a look.

Calling all 20s-30s

6th October from 6pm, Dudley

An evening of food and chat for any 20s/30s aged Christian to connect with each other.

We would love to encourage you as you live out your Christian faith at home / work / church / socially. What is God's calling on your life and are there ways to help support and resource one another?

We will meet at the home of our Ministry Experience Students - Ash and Dean, who are both in their 20s and would love to meet others of a similar age to explore how church can best engage this age group. Please do pass on to any young adults in your church and click here for more.

Mental Health and Wellbeing

I've put together this leaflet with details of some resources that we hold and websites which offer advice and support for those working with children and young people. Some of the resources are particularly good for mentoring or schools work, and will also be advertised at the forthcoming education day conference for headteachers on October 19th.
At the end of August I met with Matt from Reality Youth Project in Leicester. They offer four different 6-week courses to be run in middle or secondary schools (possibly with year 6 primary too) under the 'Abundant Life' banner, on the following themes:
  • Mad - Anger Management
  • Worth It - Self-Esteem
  • Lost and Found - loss and separation
  • Real - relationships and sex
The courses have some Christian content / perspective and are full of up to date examples and practical advice. They are a great offer for schools who can refer up to 12 pupils to each course. It is a brilliant opportunity to build those church/school links covering subjects where schools are crying out for help.
Reality Youth Project can offer a 'train the trainer' course and provide all of the materials.
There's more information on the courses here, and there is a cost to running them but please get in touch with me if you are interested to find out more, as I'd love to support some parishes/schools to trial these in the diocese.

New Resources...

Youth Evangelism Film Series

These 10 films on YouTube are brilliant real-life examples of young people and youth work volunteers sharing their faith. They are great discussion starters for your youth group and will hopefully inspire them to reach out to their peers in new ways.
