Storytelling and Church Planting
Told by Bihari Lal Naik
One Sunday I went to a new village to hold a worship service. Two girls -- sisters, Domri and Domai Madji, age 22 and 15 -- had started attending our services. In fact, they would often come and attend worship in all five villages where I'm holding services.
When their brother found out, he was very angry. He started hitting them and shouted, "Because you are going to church, people are insulting and criticizing me. So stop going. It's causing problems for me!"
The next Sunday, the two sisters told me what had happened. They begged me, "Please don't come here again; our brother is going to beat you up."
I explained "Don't worry about me. Let him come. I am not doing anything wrong. And I know God will be with me. You also will always be in God. So don't be afraid of your brother or anyone else, because they will not harm you."
I was new to storytelling, so I had been preparing to preach a sermon as usual. But at the last minute, I decided to tell the story of Jacob instead. I told how he had deceived his elder brother, and about his life when he was at his uncle's house.
Then I told the stories about Abraham, how God called him and how he obeyed God and left his own land.
I told all these stories that day, and the people listened carefully to every story.
From that day forward, the two sisters became much stronger in faith. They are still faithfully attending our church.
And not only that -- now they are bringing two other sisters along with them! So now four sisters from that same family are coming to Sunday services!
This is my testimony about the things God is doing through the storytelling.

Ten Villages to Win
God helped me to come and attend the first two modules of this storytelling training. After coming here to learn more stories, we go back to our homes and start telling them.
God has given me a goal to plant churches in ten villages where there are no Christian believers. Whenever I go to those villages to tell the stories, I always take two storytelling disciples with me.
The villagers are very interested to hear our stories. Now some are believing in Jesus Christ. In each of the ten villages, I choose a volunteer to help me. They learn the stories from me and use them to serve the LORD.
I believe, and this is my aim, that a strong church should be planted in each of those ten villages.
Please pray for us, because then God will help me do the ministry, along with those 10 village leaders [he lists the 10 villages and the name of his storytelling apprentice in each village].
