SAC Elections - Bev Grondin
As a parent at Duke of Connaught, you are automatically a part of the School Advisory Council (SAC). Our first SAC meeting of the school year is planned for September 25.
We are currently accepting nominations for our SAC executive. Every year a lot of decisions get made about the fundraising initiatives and how these funds will be spent to benefit the school community.
If you would like to get involved with SAC executive, please submit your self-nomination form [pdf] to the main office by September 25 - executive will be elected or appointed at the SAC meeting that night.
We are also looking for a returning officer to officiate the election! If you are interested, please contact us.
Adopt-a-School Library Program
School Librarian Tara Zwolinski has sent out a letter [pdf] about the Adopt-a-School Program which will be raising funds for Duke's library from September 15 to October 7 at both the Coles location in the Beaches and online.
Athletics Starting Up
A reminder that you can get the most up-to-date information about Duke's Athletics programs on the school's Athletics page. There is a link to this page in every Need-to-Read near the top of the right column.
Clubs Starting up
• Chess Club: Mondays at lunch for 10 weeks for $130 (funding assistance available).
• Art in Action: Wednesdays at lunch for 8 weeks for $135 (supplies included!)
• International Languages: Thursdays after school. African Heritage, Mandarin Simplified, Spanish.
See details on the Clubs page on our website.
English and French ReadUP
English and French ReadUP will start on Sept 27 in the main library from 3:15-4:15. If you can volunteer to help with reading (no specific commitment required) please contact Sheilah Currie.
Volunteers needed Mon, Tue
The school needs volunteers to help with pediculosis (lice) checks on Monday and Tuesday this week. Parents would need to arrive at the school at 8:15am to be quickly trained on the procedure (super easy). Please contact VP Carl Gambacort if you can help out (or just show up)!
Nutrition program updates
The Morning Meal (a.k.a. "Snack") program will start on September 24 and provides 1 item from each of 3 nutritional categories: Fruit & Veg, Milk & Alternatives, Grains.
Information about the Hot Lunch and other programs, including ordering menus (available about a week before the start of each month), is available on the Nutrition page. (There is a link to this page near the top of the right column in every Need-to-Read.)
