Pioneer Resources - Opening Doors of Opportunity

From the Corner Office...

Take the leap

Have you ever been too afraid to try something new?  Too afraid to try it because you may fail or because it may be something you didn’t like?   I have felt this way for many years.  But since the death of my brother at too young of an age, I have chosen to take the leap and try new and different things.

I have always been afraid of heights, but in the last five years I have ridden in a hot air balloon, taken a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon and most recently went on a zipline hundreds of feet alongside the Niagra Falls.

I faced a fear and tried something new, but sometimes when we try to adapt to change it doesn’t go so well.  When I rode in the hot air balloon the landing was not smooth and our basket tipped over and I was tossed in the basket.  I decided I did not like riding in hot air balloons!  I was petrified on the zip line and thought why would I have ever put myself in this situation, I will never do this again!  But, I loved the helicopter ride and seeing the vast beauty of the Grand Canyon from that perspective.  Ive tried new things and I’ve learned things about myself just by taking the leap.

What I want to bring to light is that we sometimes are afraid to take that next step or try something new and that is ok.  At Pioneer Resources we encourage participants and residents to seek out opportunities and to learn and grow.  At times this is trying something new and this can be scary.  We walk beside them and support them through these sometimes scary steps.

Occasionally we fail at our trials and now and again we succeed. But in any step, we learn about ourselves, we learn if we enjoy the action or if we are good at it.  We learn how to improve by our mistakes, to do it better the next time.  Maybe a participant learned that they are not interested in that area of work and learned that they have skills in another area.   Continually improving can be our goal.

Pioneer Resources is committed to taking steps to improve and grow!  Thank you for supporting us on this journey so that we can support seniors and individuals with disabilities who are preparing to take leaps!

Pioneer Resources' Family and Friends Picnic

Pioneer Resources had their Family and Friends Picnic, September 9, 2018 at Pioneer Trails camp in Holton, MI. Over 200 people enjoyed a meal from either Just Klassic's Bistro or Smokin' on the Lakeshore's food truck. Dessert was provided by Summer Pops and Yodels Frozen Yogurt. Everyone was able to enjoy archery, mini golf, canoeing, kayaking, or paddle boats. Pontoon rides were provided by Karl, who pointed out the two bald eagles that reside at Big Blue Lake. The kids had the ga-ga ball pit, a huge bouncy house and face painting to enjoy. Six employees won raffle prizes: Destiny Kissling (CLS) won the hammock; Both Jason Bebout (Transportation) and Karen Kendra (BAT) each won a $75 Mastercard; Larry Timmerman (Transportation) won the Fire Tablet; Karen Wilson (CLS) won the Echo Show, and Tim Wolters PACE/Ottawa won an Amazon gift card. We can hardly wait for next year!
Walter, a resident of Gretchen's Place, says his goodbyes to  Carol Welch, who is moving on to another job opportunity. Pioneer Resources thanks Carol for eight years of service!
