2. TRAINING DAY AND ABRIDGED INTRODUCTION TO ORIENTEERING (MODERATE COURSES) PARA WIRRA CONSERVATION PARK 16 SEPTEMBER 2018
On Sunday 16 September 2018 Orienteering SA will conduct:
* A Training Day; and
* An abridged Introduction to Orienteering (Moderate courses) in the Para Wirra Conservation Park.

The training will be based at the Hideaway Picnic Area which is opposite the workshop with the western and southwestern part of the Park being used.

The area has many rock and gully/spur features with vegetation varying from semi-open to thick undergrowth and hence full body cover is recommended for all courses less the Very Easy and Easy courses which will be mainly on tracks and roads.

The training will be available from 9.30 am and course starts will be from 9.30 am until 12 noon with course closure of 1.30 pm.

The abridged Introduction to Orienteering Training will commence at 9.30 am and conclude at around 1.00 pm. No need  to book. See our website for prerequisites.

The following courses will be available:
Very Easy = 1.6 km.
Easy = 2.1 km.
Practice Moderate  = 2.0 km.
Moderate = 3.2 km.
Medium length Hard = 4.0 km.
Contour Only = 2.5 km.

Signs will be from the main gate of the Park and do not attempt to pay the park entry fee on line as it is part of the event entry fee.

Further details are on the Orienteering SA website https://sa.orienteering.asn.au

3. MIDWEEK ORIENTEERING TRAINING BUNDY FOREST EAST WEDNESDAY 19 SEPTEMBER 2018
The next Midweek Orienteering training event will be conducted on the Bundy Forest East map on Wednesday 19 September 2018.

There will be one course of Hard orienteering standard of 4.2 km in length with only a small amount of climb and 13 controls.

Signs will be from the junction of Dickers Road and Forreston Road (the Gumeracha to Williamstown road) 9.4 km north of Gumeracha; that is go past the Forreston CFS and the southern boundary of the Forest.

Starts will be any time between 11.00 am and 12.30 pm and course closure at 1.30 pm.

This course could possibly be used as a warm up for the Australian Championships with some events being conducted on nearby terrain. Accordingly the controls will be left out after the event until 6 October with eventually the map and course being on the Orienteering SA website https://sa.orienteering.asn.au

4. SEPTEMBER OSA NEWSLETTER PUBLISHED

Hopefully, something here for everyone. There is an update on the Australian Championships, and profiles written by Olivia Sprod and Angus Haines in response to topics and questions sent to them. They have also written about their experiences during recent European championship tours. All great reading.

There are also reports on the World Masters Orienteering Championships, which include a gallery of event photos and a description of a fascinating indoor-O event. Results of all European championship events competed in by SA orienteers are listed. There are also a number of school reports, updates on some recent SA events, and an article on orienteering techniques written by 14-gold medal, world orienteering champion Thierry Gueorgiou.

A zoom feature has been added to most maps and some photos, which should make details easier to view. Click or tap on a map to enter zoom mode, and then click or spread and drag to see more detail at maximum resolution.
