Empowering Students, Student-Centered Learning Environment, and Lifelong Skills
Supporting Students with a Successful Start!
As a team, we are steadily looking for opportunities to empower our students.  Oftentimes we receive questions for ideas to help students with planning, organizational skills, and goal setting and look for strategies where we can incorporate such skills.

In order to assist students in developing “good study habits” and assist staff with keeping the focus on teaching in a student-centered learning environment, we respectfully ask parents/families to refrain from dropping off student’s homework, classwork, projects, or other forgotten items at the front desk once the school day starts at 8:00 AM.

Beginning Monday, September 17, 2018, items such as backpacks, projects, homework, etc. will not be delivered to the classroom nor will students be called out of class to retrieve them.  Limiting distractions, interruptions, and time out of class can help students stay focused on their learning.

*Lunches may be dropped off in emergency cases but will be delivered to the lunchroom (not classroom) prior to your child’s lunch period. This should be in emergencies only and not be a regular occurrence.

Some of our students have shared habits and strategies they have established at home to help them be better prepared for the school day:
  • Pick one place to keep school items at home (book bag, homework, items to sign)
  • Have a checklist or whiteboard in child’s room (or on refrigerator) of “not leaving home without”
  • Pack night before and leave it by my door!
Thank you for partnering with us on inspiring our students to be life-long learners!

Leader in Me Training Seminars for Parents
Please join other LP Parents in a Leader in Me 7 Habits Seminar (4 sessions) to help families reinforce what is being learned in the classroom.  Sessions begin mid-September and run through mid-November (with the high demand we will be adding additional sessions in the spring).  Space is limited so please check your schedule and sign up as soon as possible.  We are kindly asking that ONLY ONE parent per family sign up to allow as many as possible to attend, parents should sign up for 4 sessions so they can learn about all 7 habits.  Click HERE to reserve your spot.  Hours at seminar will count towards your required volunteer hours for the year.  A few additional slots were opened!

Our first sessions have been wonderful with very positive feedback from the attendees!  We do want to keep the sessions to a smaller groups as they are interactive and a larger group would not fit the format of the session.  Be on the lookout for additional sessions to be offered during the spring, dates to be determined.
Special thanks to the following parents who graciously volunteered to be the parent ambassadors for the training sessions.  They attended training last May to help expand the Leader in Me program in the 18-19 school year:  Kristin McCormick, Kathleen Tyson, Trish Schaefer, Monica Dapcic, and Ryan Martin.
Bolts of Blue Spirit Day - Thursday, September 20th
All K-8 and Pre-Prep students are invited to show their LP School Spirit with a fun dress up day!  If a student chooses not to participate in this Bolts of Blue Spirit Day they must wear the standard uniform - no exceptions. Click HERE for future LP Bolts of Blue Spirit Days.

From the Clinic
Our goal is to make our school a healthy, safe place for both students and staff.

The nurse will call you immediately if your child becomes ill during school hours.  You are expected to arrange for your child to be picked up AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE after receiving our call.  Our school clinic is not equipped or staffed to handle ill children for long periods of time.

WE ASK YOU NOT TO SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL IF ANY SIGNS/SYMPTOMS LISTED BELOW ARE PRESENT:

  1. Vomiting or diarrhea (please keep the student home for at least 24 hours following their last episode)
  2. Fever (please keep the student home until fever is completely gone without medication use)
  3. Sore/red throat (if the child has strep, please keep them home on antibiotics for at least 24 hours)
  4. Persistent coughing or sneezing
  5. Red watery eyes
  6. Rash
  7. Earache, drainage from ear
  8. Excessive mucus from nose (runny nose), particularly greenish-yellow mucus

Your child may return to school as soon as ALL SIGNS/SYMPTOMS ARE GONE or when your physician provides a WRITTEN STATEMENT indicating your child is ready to return. Teaching your children proper hand washing techniques is most important measure to prevent the spread of illness.

If you have any questions regarding our school health policies please review our handbook or contact Nurse Kopp.

Have You Set Up Your Parent and Student Edsby Accounts Yet?
Involved parents stay up to date on their child’s academic achievements.  Hillsborough County Schools use Edsby as the grade-book system to allow parents to get up to date information on their student's academic progress throughout the entire school year.

Edsby will enable teachers to share grades, assignments, and classroom-related information with students and parents.  As a web-based social learning platform, Edsby provides a comprehensive set of tools for tracking and publishing assessment results, managing course plans, communicating with students and parents, and collaborating with fellow teachers.  Students in 6th-8th grades will find Edsby integrated into their daily routine more prominent than Kindergarten - 4th grades.  Please contact your teacher with any grade specific questions for your student.

Parents:  First Time Edsby Users Must Create a mySPOT Account

  • HCPS is streamlining communication with mySPOT, the Student Parent Online Toolkit. New accounts for Edsby will use your mySPOT account. To set up your mySPOT account, visit https://myspot.sdhc.k12.fl.us/register/
    • Please Note:  Once you have registered with mySpot it takes 24 hours for your Edsby account to activate.  If you have any additional issues with the setup of your account you can contact Edsby directly: 877-337-0070.
  • Once you log into your new mySPOT account you will see the district welcome page; which gives you access to district information under one main portal.  When you click on the District Resources option you will see the Edsby icon.  If you have an Edsby account, you may log in with your Edsby username and password. If you do not have an Edsby account, please register a new account by clicking on “Register A New Account”
  • Registering a New Edsby Account:
    • To begin the registration process you will enter an email address, the student number, school, student birth date, and the last four digits of the student’s social security number.  Under the section for “Student’s School” use the drop down box to locate Lutz Preparatory School.  Once this information is entered an email will be sent to the parent to confirm the account.  Once the account is confirmed, the parent will create a password and may add the additional children to your account.
