Emil Cardinaux laid the foundations for modern Swiss poster art with his simple style influenced by Hodler and the impressionists. His travel posters convey his love of nature and the mountains. The soft watercolours of this poster are particularly lovely and make for an effective advertisement for summer holidays in Switzerland.

The famous poster artist Martin Peikert provoked astonishment with his amusing and lively posters for the Swiss tourist resorts. His bold designs made him one of the most popular designers of Swiss travel advertising in the 1940s and 1950s. His posters convey a sense of joie de vivre, health and cheerfulness in subjects such as children and ladies and very popular in Switzerland as well as abroad.

The Basel graphic designer Herbert Leupin was one of the most prominent and influential Swiss graphic artists of the post-war era. His posters combine the characteristics of the work of his French colleagues Savignac and Villemot. His humour, inventiveness and effective delivery of the advertising message make Leupin’s posters unique. This original vintage poster for Coca-Cola from 1954 is the rarest poster among a series that Leupin designed for this brand.

Exhibition: "Poster Stories"

The Museum für Gestaltung Zürich houses one of the most significant poster collections worldwide. Featuring about 80 posters, the exhibition “Poster Stories” provides an insight into the immense scope of the collection and illustrates the great innovative power of poster culture.
